Ed Sheeran has made a frank admission to his fans that he only booked Perth Stadium this weekend because he thought he’d get a chance to see the mighty Perth Scorchers in full flight.

His management had to break the hard news to him today that the Scorchers won the final last week and he’s just another bandwagoning johnny come lately.

We caught the ranga-songbird at the airport. Needless to say, he was fuming,

“I was meant to be opening for the Perth Scorchers! Who is going to come and see me now? They can just turn on some God forsaken radio station and hear the shape of you 100 times a day for free!”

The Perth Scorchers have reached out to Ed and told him that they understood his disappointment but he wasn’t ready for the big leagues yet. Adding,

“Opening? For THE Perth Scorchers? Pack it away, mate, that’s basically the highest honour in Westralia. What’s his average anyway?”

We understand that the fans who bought tickets are OK with the decision because they also purchased them under the belief the Scorchers were going to be involved.

A representative for Ed has come out on the front foot and admitted they got it wrong. Adding,

“Look when Ed heard that the Scorchers let a Kiwi open for them he thought he had a chance but clearly Australia-English relations are still a little stretched from the Ashes. He’ll look at opening next season”
