THREE DAYS EARLIER, THEY WERE SHOPPING FOR HIS COLLEGE MOVE-IN… THEN EVERYTHING CHANGED. An ordinary back-to-school shopping trip between an 18-year-old football player and his mom has become one of the most heartbreaking videos people have seen this week.

A HEARTBREAKING video showed proud mom shopping for college supplies with her teen football star son Nolan Xavier Wells just days before his Fourth of July death.

Christine Wonsley shared the TikTok of her son Nolan, 18, as they picked up items for his college move-in.

The clip, posted three days ago, showed the pair browsing in Target and Marshalls ahead of Nolan’s return to Southwest Mississippi Community College.

“Dilly dallying with the kid. A little college prep for our Nono!” Christine captioned the video.

In the footage, Christine is seen picking out stationery, toothpaste, a toothbrush, Listerine, and a laundry basket.

Nolan, known to loved ones as Nono, could be seen beside his mom during the ordinary errand that has now become unbearable for his family to watch.

Viewers flooded the comments with messages of grief after Nolan’s body was found following a frantic search off the Mississippi coast.

“Life isn’t fair man, she’s literally shopping for her son with the thought of sending him off to college,” one person wrote.

“I’m so sorry for your loss mama.”

Another said: “Now this video hurts my stomach the most. Lil college prep for our Nono.”

“I’m so angry for you. I know your heart is shattered right now and I am sending you a lot of light and love,” a third wrote.

The devastating video resurfaced after Nolan vanished on Horn Island, Mississippi, while celebrating the holiday weekend with friends.

He was last seen on Saturday afternoon near the western tip of the island, where the current is known to be strong.

Nolan had traveled there by boat with friends before he disappeared.

His mom later shared smiling pictures of him from the holiday weekend as she pleaded for anyone with photos or videos from his final hours to come forward.

“His father, Elmore Wonsley and I are not ok,” Christine wrote on Facebook during the search.

“We have so many questions. Our hearts are breaking, we keep waiting for Nolan to walk through that door with his beautiful smile and a joke of course.

“We just pray our son is alive & safe.”

Christine also asked anyone who had been on Horn Island or near the water after 4:30 pm Saturday to send footage directly to her.

A body was found on the northwest end of Horn Island around 8:45 am on Monday, according to Jackson County Sheriff John Ledbetter.

The remains were discovered by a park ranger as multiple agencies searched the island and surrounding water.

Officials have not yet formally identified the body, but the coroner said DNA testing is being used to confirm the identity.

Christine later confirmed Nolan’s death in a gut-wrenching Facebook post.

“I want to thank our family, friends, community, United Cajun Navy, local law enforcement, and everyone involved for all the love, support, resources over the last few days,” she wrote.

“His father, our family, friends and I are absolutely devastated.

“My heartbroken for my sweet son who was always willing to cheer and uplift others.

“Nolan was a special soul, God took his time creating our son.

“I ask that you please give me and my family time to grieve.”

Nolan’s phone became a key part of the timeline after loved ones said it had been left behind on the boat he rode out on.

Christine later said the phone had been returned to the family in Mississippi.

Cajun Navy Incident Commander Josh Gill told NOLA.com that Nolan had apparently last been seen “hanging out with a girl.”

But Nolan’s best friend, Jayvon Williams, 17, said the teen had also been speaking with other friends in the crowded area.

Williams told NOLA.com he was supposed to ride to the island on the same boat as Nolan, but it filled up.

He took another boat and said he saw Nolan after 4 pm Saturday.

“As soon as we got out there,” Williams told the outlet, “he told me that he loved me.”

Williams also said he and Nolan had both left their phones on the boat Nolan rode out on.

Friends said Nolan knew how to swim and had taken lessons at the YMCA in Ocean Springs.

Loved ones later gathered at the Lake Mars Boat Launch as Nolan’s parents waited by the water for rescuers to bring a body to shore.

Christine and Nolan’s father were too distraught to speak as relatives and friends surrounded them with hugs, according to NOLA.com.

Several of Nolan’s childhood friends stood by the dock in disbelief as they remembered him as kind, calm, and easy-going.

One friend told the outlet Nolan “could spark up a whole room” and called him “a great role model.”

A woman known to Nolan and his friends as “Mama D” said the teen always gave her a hug and minded his manners.

“He was a good person,” she told NOLA.com, adding that he “loved sports” and was “kind-hearted.”

She said Nolan would have celebrated his 19th birthday in August.

“It really, really hurts,” she said.

Another friend, Trace Carter, said he had spoken to Nolan before the island trip and told him to be careful.

Nolan replied, “I got you. I’ll hit you up later.”

Gautier Mayor Casey Vaughan had also urged anyone who was on Horn Island or boating nearby on July 4 to contact authorities.

The search included the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Department of Marine Resources, Gulf Islands National Seashore, the US Coast Guard, and the United Cajun Navy.

The United Cajun Navy later said it was grieving with Nolan’s loved ones.

Nolan had been due to return to Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit on Monday to practice for the upcoming football season.

He previously played football at Ocean Springs High School, where coaches remembered him as far more than an athlete.

“We are devastated by Nolan’s passing,” Ocean Springs head football coach Jake Bramlett told WLOX.

“He was the kind of son, teammate, friend and student that every coach hopes to have in a program.

“Nolan was so much more than an outstanding football player.

“He carried himself with humility, treated others with respect, worked hard and led by example.”

Southwest Mississippi Community College President Dr. J. Steven Bishop said the school was mourning a beloved member of its community.

“The entire Southwest family is heartbroken as we mourn the tragic loss of Nolan Wells,” Bishop told WLOX.

“We remember Nolan as a well-respected young man who was very popular among friends, faculty, and staff.

“We loved Nolan, and he will be greatly missed in many ways.”

Officials have not released Nolan’s cause or manner of death.

Authorities have also not said whether foul play is suspected or named any suspects.

The unanswered questions around Nolan’s final hours, including who last saw him, how he became separated from his phone, and whether he made it back to shore, have triggered a wave of online speculation.

But investigators have not publicly confirmed the circumstances surrounding his death.
