The Bride Who Fell from Heaven
The celestial soldiers did not ask Sophie whether she wanted to leave.
They descended upon the forest before sunrise and surrounded the cottage with silver spears. Prince Adrian stepped between them and Sophie, but the commander bowed and delivered the king’s order.
“The Crown Prince must return to the Celestial Palace. The mortal woman will come with him.”
The quiet life beneath the peach tree ended that morning.
At the palace, Sophie discovered that Adrian was not merely a wandering nobleman. He was heir to the Celestial Throne, promised since childhood to Lady Celeste Ashbourne, a beautiful immortal raised within the royal court.
To the immortals, Sophie was an embarrassment.
Servants whispered whenever she passed. Nobles laughed at her simple dresses and mortal manners. The Celestial King refused to recognize her marriage to Adrian, even after learning she carried his child.
Only Adrian treated her with tenderness. Yet whenever Sophie was insulted, he remained publicly distant, believing that appearing indifferent would prevent his enemies from using her against him.
Sophie saw only his silence.
Celeste saw an opportunity.
One evening, she led Sophie to the Moonlit Terrace and accused her of stealing Adrian’s love. Before Sophie could answer, Celeste stepped backward and threw herself into the sacred fountain below.
When the guards arrived, Celeste claimed Sophie had pushed her.
The court believed the immortal noblewoman.
The Celestial King demanded Sophie’s execution, but Adrian begged for her life. To satisfy the ancient law, he accepted another punishment.
Sophie would lose her sight.
Adrian entered her chamber carrying a golden blade. His hands trembled as he knelt before her.
“I swear this is the only way to keep you alive,” he whispered.
Sophie reached for his face.
“Then why does being loved by you feel so much like dying?”
When she awoke, darkness surrounded her.
Celeste received Sophie’s eyes, while Sophie was imprisoned inside an abandoned palace. Adrian visited in secret, but every apology sounded emptier than the last.
Months later, Sophie gave birth to a son named Leo.
She held the child once, kissed his forehead, and asked Adrian to protect him.
Then she walked alone toward the Bridge of Fallen Stars—the forbidden passage where immortals lost their souls and mortals disappeared forever.
Adrian found her standing at the edge.
“Sophie, come back to me.”
She turned toward his voice, tears falling from her sightless eyes.
“You promised you would always return,” she said. “But the man I loved never came back.”
Before Adrian could reach her, Sophie stepped into the endless light.
As she fell, the dark seal on her forehead shattered.
Nine silver tails appeared behind her.
And the heavens finally remembered the true identity of the woman they had destroyed.
