A special member of Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos‘ family made a special appearance on the Thursday, July 23, episode of Live With Kelly and Mark.
The couple, who wed in 1996, share three kids: Michael, Lola, and Joaquin. Ripa and Consuelos are also proud dog parents to their adorable pup, Lena, whom they adopted back in 2021. On Thursday, Lena appeared alongside the co-hosts for the show’s “Dog Tips 101” segment with celebrity dog trainer and author Jaime Goodrich.
“I guess we’ll start with Lena,” Ripa said at the top of the segment as Lena sat in between her and Consuelos on a fake park bench. “Lena is really well-behaved. We don’t have issues. Our one concern is that she seems to be very afraid of the sound of our coffee machine. It sends her running out of the room. It sends her scampering under furniture, and it seemed to develop overnight. She wasn’t afraid, and now she’s afraid.”
Goodrich recommended that Ripa and Consuelos “pair the sound with something good,” such as dropping a treat on the floor at the same time they run the coffee machine to reframe what she associates the sound with.
“She’s not that food-motivated, so we have to find the right treat,” Ripa noted.

The segment featured more Live staff members and their pups asking Goodrich for her advice, such as how to stop their dog from nipping at people during playtime, how to help a dog through the loss of another pet, how to stop dogs from pulling while walking on a leash, and more. By the end of the segment, Lena was sitting happily in Ripa’s lap.
Thursday’s episode was not Lena’s first time on Live, as Ripa and Consuelos adopted her shortly after she appeared in a pet-themed segment on the show in 2021. “If you’re thinking about getting a dog, call your local animal shelter,” Ripa said on the show that March. “Those dogs are just dreams. They somehow know. They know, they’re aware, they look at you like, ‘I’m gonna make this easy for you. You work with me, I’ll work with you.’”

Though Lena does not frequently appear in the Live studio, Ripa and Consuelso frequently talk about their beloved pet on the show. Back in May, Ripa recalled the scary aftermath of accidentally locking Lena in her car during a recent trip to Palm Springs, California.
Asking a “man in a van” for help, Ripa recalled, “I say, ‘I’m sorry. That is my car — I lied, it’s my husband’s car — That is my car. I locked the keys and my human dog and my phone inside the car.’ I said ‘my human dog,’ because they need to understand this is more than a dog, this is a person. And he says, ‘We’ll call AAA.’ And I go, ‘I would, but my phone is also locked in the car. And, if I’m being honest, I don’t know what AAA is.’ And he goes, ‘What’s your policy number?’ I go, ‘I don’t know what that means. I’m sure it’s all locked in the car.’”

Eventually, a “tow truck guy” arrived and unlocked the car for Ripa. “I sit down in the car, I fasten my seatbelt, and Lena’s head pops up,” Ripa told viewers. “And she was like, ‘You have no idea!’ She looked at me like this, like, ‘There were strangers trying to break into this car. I stayed hidden. Girl…’”
Ripa went on to joke, “All I could think of was, ‘Forget the dog. Mark is going to kill me. Mark is going to kill me. I was like, ‘He knows. The dog is psychologically communicating with him, telepathically.’”
