The Rock Is Trading The Wrestling Ring For A Guitar — And His Next Career Move May Surprise Everyone

Dwayne Johnson may be preparing to add another unexpected title to his already enormous résumé: country music hopeful.

The Hollywood heavyweight and former wrestling superstar has revealed that he is seriously exploring music, opening the door to a career move that could surprise even fans who have watched him reinvent himself time and again.

In a conversation with Rolling Stone, Johnson explained that his musical roots go much deeper than his larger-than-life public persona might suggest. He grew up listening to artists including Sam Cooke, Elvis Presley, George Jones, Merle Haggard and Johnny Paycheck.

And now, it appears, he is ready to turn those influences into something of his own.

Johnson has already taken a major step with the release of Your Dad, an emotional ballad written for his daughters. The track was co-written with American Idol winner Iam Tongi and features on Moana: Voices Across the Ocean, a companion album executive produced by Johnson and his wife, Lauren Hashian.

For a man better known for blockbuster action films, wrestling entrances and motivational one-liners, the song reveals a noticeably softer side.

Rather than chasing a flashy pop sound, Johnson appears interested in the traditional country and soul music that shaped him growing up.

And then there is the guitar.

Johnson revealed that country legend Willie Nelson once gave him his first guitar as a birthday present. Even better, it was a Martin guitar inspired by Nelson’s famous instrument, Trigger.

That gift now feels almost like a full-circle moment.

Johnson has spent decades proving he can move between worlds. He went from professional wrestling to becoming one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, while also building businesses, producing projects and developing a reputation as one of the entertainment industry’s most recognisable personalities.

Music could be the next chapter.

The Rock is hardly the first celebrity to discover a second life in music, but his connection to traditional country gives the idea a more personal edge.

There is also something fitting about the material he has chosen.
