£97,000 Was Riding on Five Clocks — and One Contestant Saw What Almost Everyone Else Missed

A contestant on last night’s episode of The 1% Club managed to bag a tidy £97k after correctly answering an ‘impossible’ final question.

Bored of the traditional game show format which relies on retaining random bits of general knowledge?

Then it’s high time you started watching Lee Mack’s ITV series The 1% Clubwhich tests contestants’ logic and critical thinking skills. There are 15 questions, each of which get progressively harder, culminating in a problem which theoretically only one percent of the nation should be able to guess.

Make it all the way to the end and you get a share of a prize pot totalling up to £100k in cash.

The series is known for often catching contestants out with questions often knocking dozens of people out at once.

However for the quick thinking and astute among us, glory awaits, which is exactly what happened during yesterday’s (7 March) episode when one woman managed to snag £97k after correctly guessing an ‘impossible’ question.

After a tense game, which saw a record 25 people knocked out by one question, two people made it to the 1% question, contestants Zoe and Ryan.

The pair were then faced with a series of alarm clocks displaying various times, alongside the question: “What word is represented by the times on the clocks below?”

The times on the clocks in order of appearance are: an alarm clock displaying 12, a digital alarm clock showing 1, two analog clocks showing 2 and 5 respectively and a second digital alarm clock showing 12 again.

So a five letter word represented by the times 12, 1, 2, 5, 12, any guesses?

@meetmaxinetv There were 2 final contestants in this edition of the TV quiz The 1% Club. One for the answer right. Would you have? Please like, follow and comment. Answer spoiler below: LABEL The hour number relates to the position of a letter in the alphabet. #tv #foryoupage❤️❤️ #itv #theonepercentclub #tvquiz ♬ Do My Ting – 🇪🇸Mônica🇪🇸

Take a look at the question as it was presented to Zoe and Ryan below before scrolling to find out the answer:

For anyone who is still stumped, the answer is in fact ‘Label‘ with the numbers corresponding to each letter’s place in the alphabet.

It my look very obvious now that we have the answer, but the question stumped Ryan, who failed to submit an answer, leaving just Zoe in the running.

She correctly guessed the answer, winning herself the £97k jackpot, while the remaining £3,000 went to contestants who decided to opt out of the game rather than leave empty handed.

Ryan wasn’t alone in being stumped by the question, with several viewers taking to social media to express their confusion after the show ended.

“Never got that. Fair play to the winner. Well deserved,” wrote one person, while a second asked: “Can anyone explain why it’s label?”

“Damn! Label? That’s some really lateral thinking,” added a third.
