’90s Nickelodeon Star Natanya Ross Looks Unrecognisable More Than 30 Years After Finding Fame — But It’s The Heartbreaking Story Of What Happened After She Left The Spotlight That Has Stunned Fans

90s TV star unrecognisable 32 years after iconic Nickelodeon show and being left homeless - can you guess who?

Natanya Ross Opens a New Chapter After Addiction and Homelessness

Three decades after rising to fame on Nickelodeon, Natanya Ross has undergone a striking transformation. Now 44, the actress has rebuilt her life after years of drug and alcohol addiction, periods of homelessness and a career setback that she says was directly linked to her substance abuse.

Today, Ross presents a very different image on Instagram, embracing a glamorous new look while focusing on sobriety, charity work and her podcast.

From Nickelodeon Star to Award Winner

Ross became widely known for playing Robyn Russo on The Secret World of Alex Mack, which ran from 1994 to 1998.

Her character was a close friend of the show’s central protagonist. Ross appeared throughout all four seasons, bringing a distinctive goth-inspired style to Robyn while also showcasing her natural auburn hair and striking blue eyes.

Her performance earned her two Youth In Film awards.

After the Nickelodeon series ended, Ross continued building her acting career with appearances in popular shows including Boy Meets World, 90210 and Baywatch. She also appeared in the film Freaky Friday, among other projects.

Years of Addiction and Homelessness

Ross later faced serious struggles in her personal life. During her twenties, she battled drug and alcohol addiction and at times found herself homeless or living on Skid Row, the Los Angeles neighbourhood known for its large unhoused population.

Speaking previously to Voyage LA, Ross said she spent much of her twenties dealing with addiction.

She eventually entered treatment for the final time at age 30. That experience inspired her to begin working in addiction treatment herself.

Ross has also spoken openly about her struggles with cocaine and heroin, including how her drug use affected her acting career.

The Role She Lost Because of Cocaine

On the Against All Odds podcast, Ross recalled reaching the final stage of auditions for Eight Mile, the film starring Eminem.

She had made it through every audition and reached the final call before a screen test with Eminem. She was asked to bring a scene partner who would play Eminem’s character.

But nerves got the better of her. Ross said she decided to use cocaine before the audition, believing it would help her cope with the pressure.

She described arriving at the audition sweating heavily and said that, by the time she returned home, her agent of 17 years had dropped her.

The experience became one of the clearest examples of how addiction had affected her professional life.

A New Direction After Getting Sober

Ross has since stepped away from focusing solely on acting and has devoted more of her time to podcasting and charitable work.

She founded the San Fernando Valley nonprofit organisation that feeds homeless people and also serves on the board of the Women’s Association of Addiction.

Her life has changed considerably since those difficult years, with sobriety becoming an important part of her new lifestyle.

Ross recently described launching her podcast, We’re Still Here Babe, as “the most important morning in my entertainment career in the last 25 years.”

The podcast launched last month, accompanied by a glamorous photo of Ross wearing a leopard-print dress. She also showed off her sleek, dark red hairstyle, polished eyebrows and chunky glasses.

“This Is Truly My Love Letter Back to You All”

Ross told her followers that many had remained with her throughout her career, dating back to what she described as their “AOL sign up days.”

She said fans had repeatedly asked whether she would return to acting. While she has made occasional appearances over the years, Ross said this new chapter felt different.

She explained that, when starting the podcast, she promised herself she would not worry about what the eventual outcome might be.

Instead, she said she wanted to take the journey alongside her audience and see where it led.

Ross ended her message to fans by describing the podcast as “my love letter back to you all.”

After years marked by addiction, homelessness and professional setbacks, the former Nickelodeon star is now pursuing a very different path, centred on sobriety, advocacy, podcasting and reconnecting with the audience that has followed her since the 1990s.
