Easy Peasy — Until £100,000 Was on the Line. The 1% Club Viewers Couldn’t Believe This Was The Final £100,000 Question — Many Claimed They Spotted The Trick Instantly, But The Contestant Facing Lee Mack Under The 30-Second Clock Somehow Missed It

The 1% Club’s £100,000 Question Has Viewers Putting Their General Knowledge to the Test

Fans of general knowledge quizzes have become hooked on The 1% Club, with viewers eagerly watching to see whether contestants can survive the increasingly difficult questions and reach the show’s £100,000 finale.

Hosted by comedian Lee Mack, the popular ITV game show begins with 100 contestants, each competing for the chance to progress through the rounds and build up their winnings.

The format features 15 questions that become progressively harder. The ultimate challenge is the 1% question, which is designed to be answered correctly by only one percent of the country.

A correct answer to that final question can result in a £100,000 cash prize.

One contestant faced a question viewers thought was easy

During an episode last month, the final question challenged contestants to identify a word using only two letters to complete the blanks:

P _ _ _ E _ _ I _ N

Tessa, described as nervous before facing the final question, had to work out the answer while viewers watched.

Some people following along at home were surprised by how quickly they solved it, with several taking to social media to say they found the question surprisingly straightforward.

“Don’t usually get the last question but I saw that one instantly. Easy peasy,” one viewer wrote.

Another commented: “Got it! Blimey I actually answered the 1% question.”

Unfortunately for Tessa, she fell into the 99 percent who were expected to miss it.

The answer was possession.

A 'nervous' Tessa faced the all-important last question.

Another episode left viewers completely stumped

A different episode from last month produced a much tougher challenge, with some viewers calling it “the hardest 1% question” they had seen on the show.

Contestants Maisie and Alex made it all the way to the final question, which was based on a sequence of equations:

0 + 100 = 100
1 + 99 = 100
2 + 98 = 100

They were then asked:

What is the sum of all the whole numbers between zero and 100?

Not a clue.

The question proved considerably more intimidating for viewers at home.

“This is possibly the hardest 1% question I’ve come across. I would even consider it a 0.1% question,” one person commented.

Another admitted: “The number ones always get me!”

Others were equally frustrated.

“I didn’t get it. Gutted,” a third viewer wrote.

A fourth said they had not even attempted it, adding that maths was difficult enough with a calculator, let alone trying to work it out mentally in 30 seconds.

Viewers eagerly anticipate the final £100k question laid out by comedian and host Lee Mack.

The answer was 5,050

Maisie and Alex guessed 5,000, coming remarkably close to the correct figure.

Lee Mack explained the solution by pointing out that there are 50 pairs of numbers that add up to 100.

Those pairs begin with 0 and 100, followed by 1 and 99, 2 and 98, and so on. Fifty such pairs produce a total of 5,000.

However, there is one number left over: 50.

Because 50 sits in the middle and cannot be paired with another number without exceeding the required range, it also has to be included.

That brings the final answer to 5,050.

For anyone who struggles with mental arithmetic, the contestants’ £5,000 guess may have felt close enough. Unfortunately, on The 1% Club, being close is not enough to make it through.
