Harry and Meghan Are Back in Britain—But It’s Archie and Lilibet’s Reported Next Move That Could Make This Return Far More Significant Than Anyone Expected. The Sussexes are said to have arrived by private jet with both children as preparations begin for them to start school in the UK next week, transforming what might have looked like another family visit into something potentially much bigger. After years of building their lives in California, bringing Archie and Lilibet into the British school system could be the clearest signal yet that Harry and Meghan’s relationship with the country they left behind is entering an entirely new chapter.

HARRY AND MEGHAN RETURN TO BRITAIN WITH ARCHIE AND LILIBET AFTER SIX YEARS IN THE U.S. BUT THEIR NEW LIFE COMES WITH BIG QUESTIONS

Harry and Meghan land in Britain: Sussexes arrive with Archie and Lilibet on private jet as children prepare to start at UK school next week | Daily Mail Online

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have officially returned to Britain with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, marking a major change for the family nearly six years after they stepped away from royal duties and established their life in California.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at Birmingham Airport on Wednesday afternoon after flying from California on a private jet. The family is now preparing to begin life in a non-royal residence outside London, while continuing to maintain connections to their homes in the U.S. and Portugal.

The return comes as something of a surprise. Harry and Meghan left Britain in 2020 and later settled in Montecito, where they built a life largely away from the day-to-day routines of the Royal Family.

Now, however, their children are expected to attend school in the UK, with Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, preparing to begin the new school term. The couple are reportedly viewing the move as a family decision, giving their children the opportunity to experience the country where their father was born and grew up. A source close to Harry told People that he had “never really stopped missing home” and missed the sense of connection and belonging he associated with Britain.

For Harry, the move is also an opportunity for Archie and Lilibet to better understand their family history and the world he grew up in.

Meghan, who was born and raised in Los Angeles, is said to feel fortunate that the children can experience both sides of their lives.

THE KING WAS TOLD JUST DAYS BEFORE THE MOVE

The return also adds another layer to Harry’s complicated relationship with his family.

Just last month, Harry and Meghan brought Archie and Lilibet to Highgrove to meet King Charles — reportedly the first time the children had seen their grandfather in four years.

However, the couple are not believed to have discussed their plans to relocate to Britain during that meeting. Instead, the King was reportedly informed about the move only three days before the announcement became public.

Charles is said to be pleased about having the opportunity to spend more time with his grandchildren, although there is no indication that Harry and Meghan will resume their roles as working royals.

The bigger question is whether the family’s return could eventually create more opportunities for reconciliation.

Harry and his older brother, Prince William, remain estranged following years of tension that intensified after Harry and Meghan’s departure from royal duties.

Harry’s Oprah interview, Netflix documentary and memoir Spare brought private family disagreements into the public spotlight, leaving relations between the brothers severely strained.

William and Kate have so far made no public response to the Sussexes’ return.

With members of the Royal Family currently gathering at Balmoral for their summer break, there could be private conversations about the development behind palace doors.

SECURITY REMAINS A MAJOR QUESTION

One of the biggest unresolved issues surrounding Harry’s return is security.

The Sussexes reportedly received no police protection when they arrived in Birmingham, while questions remain over what security arrangements they will receive as they spend more time in Britain.

Harry has been involved in a long-running legal dispute over his security arrangements since losing his automatic police protection after stepping down as a senior working royal.

If the family eventually becomes permanent residents in Britain again, their security arrangements could potentially become an even bigger issue.

There are also questions about the financial implications of their move, particularly whether British taxpayers could ultimately contribute toward any protection provided to the family.

MEGHAN WILL CONTINUE HER BUSINESS

The move does not mean the Sussexes are completely abandoning their American life.

Meghan is expected to continue running her lifestyle brand, As Ever, from Britain. The brand recently introduced a new Spiced Apple Butter product, keeping her business activities moving despite the family’s relocation.

The couple are also believed to be maintaining their properties in California and Portugal, suggesting that they intend to live an “international” family life rather than completely closing the door on their American base.

There are also reports that Meghan remains in discussions about a possible acting role in the third season of Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen, although neither she nor the production has publicly confirmed the reports.

HARRY HAS ANOTHER REASON TO BE IN BRITAIN

Harry’s connection to Britain will also remain important professionally.

He is expected to become heavily involved in preparations for the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham, which are scheduled to take place next July.

That could give Harry an important reason to spend significant time in Britain beyond his family commitments.

The Sussexes’ new arrangement therefore appears to be less of a complete return to royal life and more of an attempt to establish a two-world existence — Britain for family, schooling and Harry’s connections, while California and Portugal remain part of their wider life.

For now, the most immediate change will be seeing Archie and Lilibet grow up with more direct exposure to their father’s homeland.

And after years of separation, the biggest question may not simply be where Harry and Meghan will live.

It is whether bringing the family back to Britain could eventually bring Harry closer to the royal family he left behind — particularly his father, King Charles, and his estranged brother William.
