Connor Closs Earns Two-Chair Turn on The Voice With Hozier’s “Too Sweet” — But Adam Levine Wasn’t His First Choice

Connor Closs had grown up watching The Voice with his parents. On Night 4 of Season 30’s Blind Auditions, the 23-year-old New Jersey singer finally found himself standing on the stage he had watched for years — and the moment became even more emotional when two coaches turned for him.

Closs delivered Hozier’s “Too Sweet,” gradually winning over Adam Levine and Riley Green. Adam turned first, followed shortly by Riley, giving the Middletown, New Jersey, singer a choice between two coaches.

For Closs, the audition was more than a chance to advance on a singing competition. His mother has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and had previously been a dancer, while Connor only discovered his own passion for singing later in high school.

Adam Levine Praises Connor’s Falsetto

Closs did not receive an immediate response from the coaches.

But as he pushed deeper into “Too Sweet,” Adam Levine eventually turned his chair. Riley Green followed soon afterward, while Kelly Clarkson and Queen Latifah remained in their seats.

Levine explained why he wanted Closs on his team, specifically praising the way the singer handled the song’s demanding falsetto.

Adam called the performance “masterful” and described Closs’ voice as “unique and efficient,” highlighting his control through some of the song’s more difficult sections.

Riley was impressed as well, explaining that he was looking to diversify his team.

Queen Latifah also had a connection to the audition, revealing that she had lived near Connor’s hometown.

Connor Had Originally Hoped For Kelly Clarkson

There was an unexpected twist when it came time for Closs to choose his coach.

Although Connor had previously hoped to work with Kelly Clarkson, she had not turned her chair. Instead, he ultimately selected Adam Levine.

The decision also came with a natural musical connection: Closs is a fan of Maroon 5, Levine’s band.

Connor also revealed that he already had considerable live-performance experience. He has performed on a cruise ship and currently sings with The Cliffs, a New Jersey cover band.

Closs’ The Voice audition may have introduced him to a much larger audience, but it was far from his first time performing.

In 2023, he appeared on the Hits The Musical Tour, which traveled to 48 cities across the United States.

He later studied musical theater at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., adding formal training to his performance background.

Closs has also performed aboard the Coral Princess cruise ship and currently works as a lead vocalist for The Cliffs, the Jersey Shore cover band.

He has built an audience online as well, with nearly 12,000 TikTok followers and more than 175,000 likes. One of his cover performances has surpassed 750,000 views.

After earning his two-chair turn, Closs chose Adam Levine and secured his place on Team Adam.
