Angle. Re. Gon. One Letter Left — and Three Finalists Couldn’t Find It… The 1% Club’s “ANGLE RE GON ?” Puzzle Made Show History After A University Student Spotted The Bizarre Rule In Around Half The 30-Second Time Limit — Becoming The First Regular Contestant To Take The Entire £100,000 Jackpot

The 1% Club contestant makes show history with £100,000 win after cracking baffling final question

A university student from Liverpool has become only the second person ever to win the full £100,000 top prize on The 1% Club, solving a fiendishly simple-looking question that left three other finalists stumped.

Lucie Alcock reached the decisive stage during Wednesday night’s edition of The 1% Club Rollover, the ITV spin-off hosted by Lee Mack. With every available pass already used, the entire £100,000 prize was on the line.

Lucie then faced a question that had viewers at home struggling to see the answer.

Lucie had already surprised herself by reaching the final

Lucie, a university student from Liverpool, had revealed earlier in the episode that she regularly watches The 1% Club with her boyfriend while they are both at university.

The pair had applied to appear on the programme, but Lucie was the only one who made it onto the show.

Her aim was therefore to win enough money for both of them.

Earlier in the game, when she reached the 15% question, Lucie admitted that she had never expected to make it so far.

But she continued to survive each round until she found herself among the final four contestants.

The Rollover format adds an extra twist to the familiar game. Contestants who reach the 1% question can return for the following episode, while an unclaimed jackpot is carried over to the next show. The five-night event began on December 8, 2025, with the prize potentially growing to £500,000.

By the time Lucie reached the final question on Wednesday, however, the £100,000 pot was hers to potentially take.

Could you solve the £100,000 question?

The final question asked:

What letter of the alphabet replaces the question mark in this sentence?

ANGLE RE GON ?

Three of the four remaining contestants gave the wrong answer.

Lucie, however, spotted the pattern.

The correct answer was N.

The clue works through the names of different shapes: Triangle, Square, Pentagon and Hexagon.

Each word has letters removed from the beginning according to the number of sides the shape has. Following that pattern leads to N for Hexagon.

The solution was enough to secure Lucie the entire £100,000 prize.

The question has since become one of those 1% Club puzzles that looks almost nonsensical until the pattern suddenly clicks into place. The show’s format is deliberately built around logic, observation and common sense rather than conventional general knowledge.

Lee Mack was stunned by how quickly Lucie got it

Once the answer had been revealed, Lee Mack wanted to know how long Lucie had needed to work it out.

The presenter asked her how long it had taken.

Lucie, visibly stunned by what had just happened, laughed and replied that she had worked it out in about half the available time.

She then reacted with a simple: “Oh, my god.”

Her reaction reflected just how unexpected the win was. Lucie had entered the competition hoping to win something for herself and her boyfriend, but ended the episode with the full £100,000 jackpot.

Lucie joins an exclusive list of £100,000 winners

Lucie’s victory was particularly significant because the full £100,000 jackpot had previously been won only once on the regular show format.

The other winner was Clarke Carlisle, who achieved the feat during a celebrity special.

That makes Lucie the only contestant outside that celebrity edition to have taken the entire £100,000 prize on the programme.

Her win came during the first 1% Club Rollover event, which aired across five consecutive nights. The spin-off introduced the returning-contestant element while allowing the prize fund to build when nobody managed to answer the final question.

Viewers were far less confident about the answer

Although Lucie saw the pattern quickly, many people watching at home were left completely baffled by the final puzzle.

Some viewers admitted they might eventually have worked it out, but certainly not within the short time available to the contestants.

Others described the question as random and struggled to understand how Lucie had spotted the connection so quickly.

That contrast was part of what made the moment so memorable. A sequence that appeared almost meaningless at first glance suddenly became clear once the names of the shapes were recognised.

Lucie’s three fellow finalists did not manage to make the same connection, leaving her as the only contestant to correctly answer the question and claim the £100,000.

The 1% Club Rollover continued throughout the week, with successful finalists given the opportunity to return and compete again. The format meant the jackpot could eventually reach as much as £500,000 if it remained unclaimed.

For Lucie, though, there was no need to wait for the jackpot to grow.

She had already done something very few 1% Club contestants have managed: answer the final question correctly and walk away with the full £100,000.
