The 1% Club Final Question Leaves Nine Players Empty-Handed As Two Contestants Share £95,000 Jackpot
Eleven contestants reached the final question on The 1% Club, all hoping to secure a share of a £95,000 prize pot. But when host Lee Mack revealed the answer to the show’s last big-money puzzle, nine players discovered they had missed their chance to win, leaving just two contestants to walk away with a life-changing sum.
The tense moment came down to a deceptively simple sequence of letters. Despite making it through the earlier rounds of challenging brainteasers, the remaining players had just 30 seconds to work out which letter belonged in the missing space.

Eleven Contestants Face One Final Challenge
Lee Mack introduced the question by confirming that the prize fund had reached £95,000. With 11 contestants still in the running, a correct answer would give them the opportunity to divide the money between them.
He then presented the challenge:
What letter replaces the question mark in this sequence?
YYHLY?YTRRRR
The contestants had 30 seconds to study the sequence and settle on their answers. Once the countdown ended, Lee asked each player to reveal which letter they had chosen.
Their responses varied considerably, with the contestants putting forward H, T, E, T, R, H, N, E, L, Y and T.
Noticing the spread of answers, Lee remarked: “There’s quite a lot of different answers there so someone might win big tonight.”
The moment left the contestants waiting to discover whether their final decision had been the right one.

The Correct Answer Revealed
After the clock ran out, Lee revealed that the correct letter was E. The sequence represented the final letters of the 12 months of the year, a pattern that had proved difficult for most of the remaining contestants to spot.
Only two players had selected the right answer: Joe Clark and Liz Casey. Both successfully navigated the final challenge and secured an equal share of the £95,000 prize pot.
Joe and Liz each walked away with £47,500, while the other nine contestants missed out on the opportunity to take home any of the jackpot.

Other Challenging Puzzles From The 1% Club
The ITV quiz show puts contestants through a series of increasingly difficult questions, testing their powers of observation, logical reasoning and ability to recognise patterns. Its toughest puzzles can require players to look beyond the most obvious answer.
Some of the show’s challenging teasers have included:
- Spotting matching butterflies: Contestants had to compare three butterfly images and identify which ones were identical on both sides.
- Recognising reversible symbol sequences: Players were shown groups of six symbols and asked which group remained in the same order when read from left to right or right to left.
- Counting hand combinations: One puzzle asked how many different combinations could be formed by displaying four digits on a single hand.
- Decoding a secret diary: Contestants had to decipher a coded message written by a character named Peter, who had forgotten how to interpret his old diary.
- Counting eyes in a picture: Players had to work out how many eyes appeared in an image containing letters, symbols and emojis.
- Navigating a number grid: A puzzle involving numbers from 1 to 49 required contestants to follow coded directions across a grid, starting from the central square.
- Finding a rearranged food word: In a final word-based teaser, players had to identify a common food whose letters, A, B, D, E and R, had been arranged alphabetically.

These challenges illustrate the range of skills required to progress through The 1% Club, where a question that initially appears straightforward can become surprisingly difficult under pressure.
For Joe Clark and Liz Casey, however, the final sequence proved to be the difference between leaving empty-handed and sharing a £95,000 jackpot.
