They Won £97,000 With ‘Seven’ — but Was It Actually Eight? The 1% Club’s £97,000 Final Question Looked Almost Too Simple — Four Contestants Cracked It And Shared The Jackpot, Until Viewers Spotted One Word That Made The Official Answer Suddenly Look Far Less Clear-Cut

The 1% Club viewers divided over ‘confusing’ final question

Viewers of ITV’s The 1% Club were left divided over the show’s final question, with some struggling to work out the answer while others described it as one of the easiest 1% questions they had seen.

The popular game show sees 100 contestants begin the competition with a £1,000 stake each. They face 15 questions that gradually increase in difficulty, with the ultimate goal of reaching the final question, which is supposedly answered correctly by only one percent of the nation.

Anyone who manages to answer it correctly can take home a share of the £100,000 prize pot.

Lee Mack has an awkward moment with contestant Emma

Host Lee Mack, 56, was back on screen on Thursday evening, December 12, where he found himself in an awkward situation with contestant Emma shortly before the final question.

Introducing her, Mack referred to Emma as the woman who had previously said off camera that she would happily appear on Naked Attraction.

Emma immediately laughed and explained: “I said that off camera because my partner wouldn’t be watching.”

Realising he had just revealed the comment to the audience, Mack put his hand over his face.

“Oh. And now I’ve just said it down the lens. I’m so sorry,” he said.

Emma also revealed what she would spend the prize money on if she won. She said she wanted a gaming mouse after her partner introduced her to World of Warcraft.

“It’s proper sad and nerdy but it’s so much fun,” she admitted.

Emma eventually made it through to the final 1% question, alongside four other contestants. All five finalists chose to play for the full remaining prize pot of £97,000.

The final question leaves viewers scratching their heads

The contestants were shown a paragraph and asked to count how many times the name of a number appeared in it.

The question read:

“In the paragraph below, the names of various numbers appear. Answer the following question: Everyone! Pay attention and listen up.

“Focus in these frightening and lonely thirty seconds. In this whole paragraph, how many times in total is the name of a number written down?”

The correct answer was seven.

Four of the five finalists, including Emma, got it right and shared the £97,000 prize, taking home £24,250 each.

However, some viewers watching at home were less convinced by the question and argued that there was an additional number hidden in the wording.

One viewer wrote on social media: “A bit confusing. You haven’t counted ‘second’ which is an ordinal number. The answer could be eight.”

Another admitted they had struggled with the question, joking: “Totally miscounted….can I blame it on just having got in from my works Xmas do and I’ve had a few wines?!”

Others thought it was one of the easiest 1% questions

Not everyone found the puzzle difficult. Some viewers felt the answer was particularly straightforward once they understood exactly what they were looking for.

One viewer posted: “OMG I got it right & in the time. Thanks goodness I understood the question. It’s four tens, two ones & one thirty equals seven.”

Another explained how they reached the same answer despite missing one of the hidden references: “I was lucky, I didn’t see the ten in frightening but did see a backwards nine and counted that so still got seven.”

For those viewers, the final puzzle proved far less intimidating than some of the other challenges featured on The 1% Club, with one describing it as the “easiest 1% question I’ve seen!”
