Billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is involved in a consortium looking to buy into Liverpool with a statement anticipated soon
Jeff Bezos is preparing to take a stake in Liverpool. The billionaire is part of a consortium which also includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin.
Amazon founder Bezos has been one of the richest men in the world for a number of years. He sat fourth on the most recent Forbes billionaires list, with his fortune now estimated to sit at $280bn (just under £208m).
According to Sky News, an official announcement over the deal could arrive this week. The consortium is reportedly led by Amit Bhatia, the former QPR chairman and son-in-law of Indian billionaire Lakshmi Mittal.
An investment in Liverpool would just be the latest step for the super-rich businessman, who boasts a huge property empire along with wife Lauren Sanchez. Here, we’ve taken a deeper dive into what that looks like.
Reports from Realtor.com estimates Bezos’ property empire to be worth some $500m (£370m) on its own. The star of the show is his primary home on Indian Creek Island in Florida, an exclusive island with just 34 residences – unsurprisingly belonging to the super-rich.
Three of those belong to Bezos, including a $90m property bought in 2024. While the size of the home means he might not have neighbours in the same sense as you or I, other residents of Indian Creek Island include NFL legend Tom Brady and first daughter Ivanka Trump.
Previously, Bezos lived in Seattle with his former wife Mackenzie Scott and still owns a number of properties in the area. He made a tidy profit on one of his homes in the small town of Hunts Point, buying for $37.5m in 2019 and selling for $63m four years later, per the Puget Sound Business Journal.
The 62-year-old established Amazon in Washington State in the 90s and also purchased properties in the Seattle suburb of Medina. He isn’t the only Hunts Point resident with ties to Seattle, with former Seattle Seahawks NFL coach Pete Carroll among the others to buy property there.
Over the last decade, Bezos has also picked up properties in Washington DC and New York City, each worth more than $15m, and a ranch in West Texas. That’s nothing compared to his $78m Hawaii property, though, which is believed to include a 4,500-square-foot main house.
However, it’s a $165m Beverly Hills home which tops the lot. The California property was developed by movie mogul Jack Warner and previously belonged to record executive David Geffen, with Architectural Digest reporting that it includes tennis courts and its own nine-hole golf course.
It isn’t just about property for Bezos either. The bulk of his wealth still comes from his Amazon stake, despite him selling shares worth a reported $13.5bn in 2023, while he has a private investment firm – Bezos Expeditions – which manages his other investments.
These investments include stakes in Uber and Airbnb, among other ventures, with the Sovereign Wealth Fund Institute estimating Bezos investments has approximately $107.8bn of assets. The billionaire also took charge of the Washington Post more than a decade ago in a deal worth $250m.

Another significant project of Bezos is Blue Origin, the space technology company he established in 2000. The company, which produces rockets and engines, was described in 2023 by CEO Bob Smith as having “hundreds of millions in revenue as well as billions of dollars in orders”.
While Bezos is one of the richest individuals in the world, fellow consortium member Saverin is reportedly worth nearly $24bn himself. The 44-year-old is a co-founder of venture capital firm B Capital and is now based in Singapore.
Sky News reports that the bid values Liverpool at around $6bn. The club was valued at $4.5bn when Dynasty Equity took a small stake in 2023, though the Bezos-Saverin consortium could take a stake of more than 30 per cent.
