Enzo Fernandez Breaks His Silence in Emotional Chelsea Farewell Ahead of £125m Manchester City Move

Enzo Fernandez has admitted he “hasn’t been in a good place” as he prepares to leave Chelsea for Manchester City in a dramatic deadline-day transfer.

The Argentina international is in Manchester to undergo his medical ahead of a reported £125million move to the Etihad Stadium, where he is set to reunite with former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca.

For Fernandez, however, the move has come with an emotional goodbye to the club he has called home for the past three years.

‘These have not been easy days for me’

Fernandez addressed Chelsea supporters directly in a heartfelt statement posted on social media, making clear just how difficult it has been to say goodbye.

“Dear Chelsea, I want you to know that these have not been easy days for me. Writing this is not easy either. The truth is, I haven’t been in a good place,” he wrote.

The midfielder recalled how Cobham and Stamford Bridge had become home for both him and his family after arriving at the club three years ago.

“I got attached to the people, to the shirt, and to the badge of this incredible club,” Fernandez said.

He also reflected on the intense emotions of his time in west London, from difficult defeats and frustrations to celebrating major victories.

“We suffered, we cried, I got angry many times, but we also celebrated titles and unforgettable victories,” he wrote.

Fernandez understands the anger

Fernandez acknowledged that his departure may be difficult for Chelsea supporters to accept, particularly given the passion with which they follow the club.

“I live football the same way I live my life: with passion and with all my heart,” he said. “That is why I want you to know that I understand you. I truly understand you, from the bottom of my heart.”

The 25-year-old also admitted that football sometimes demands difficult decisions, even when emotions pull in another direction.

“Life is about making decisions, and right now I find myself having to make one of those difficult decisions,” he wrote.

Fernandez had previously expressed a desire to live in Madrid, prompting speculation that Real Madrid could become his next destination. However, the Spanish giants reportedly issued a statement denying interest in the midfielder, leaving Manchester City positioned to make their move.

A final message to the Blues

Despite the impending transfer, Fernandez insisted that his affection for Chelsea would not disappear.

“Chelsea will always have a place in my thoughts and, above all, in my heart,” he wrote.

He thanked the club’s staff, coaches, medical team, physiotherapists and everyone working at Cobham, as well as the teammates who shared his journey.

“To all my teammates over these years, thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing so many moments with me,” Fernandez said. “I was truly happy here, and I wish you nothing but the very best for the future.”

His message also included a personal thank-you to Chelsea supporters for the support they had shown him and his family.

“I will never forget it,” he wrote.

Fernandez ended his farewell with a message that underlined the complicated emotions surrounding his departure.

“You will always be in my heart, Blues,” he said. “I will always wish you, always, nothing but the very best. Always Blue. Thank you, Chelsea.”

Now, with his Manchester City medical looming, Fernandez is preparing to close one chapter of his career and begin another — but his emotional farewell makes clear that leaving Chelsea is proving far more difficult than simply changing clubs.
