Mohamed Salah has joined Trabzonspor on a two-year contract having left Liverpool as a free agent this summer, and will pick up an eye-watering salary in the Turkish Super Lig

Mohamed Salah is in line for an annual salary of £14.5million with Trabzonspor – and that’s before lucrative, performance-based bonuses. The 34-year-old only signed a two-year extension with Liverpool last April, but mutually agreed to part ways with the club this summer as he looks to the next stage of his career.
As a result, a number of clubs were linked with making a move for the Egypt star with interests coming in from the likes of Saudi Arabia and Italy. In the end, however, Salah opted to sign the dotted line for Trabzonspor in a deal which will see him through until 2028.
There, Salah will pick up a salary of £14.5m each season, made up of an £8.5m wage and £6m from signing fees, as revealed by Trabzonspor on a public disclosure platform. He will also see a boost in the form of bonuses, should he hit performance-related KPIs over the course of the season.
Salah has also agree a clause which will see hum pocket a 20 per cent cut of any revenue generated by Trabzonspor relating to his likeness. It means that the forward will likely be in line for a huge sum from shirt sales bearing his name and number, as well as special-line items released relating to him.
Speaking about the move after being welcomed by tens of thousands of fans in Trabzon, Salah shared his commitment to his new club. He said: “I am very happy to be in this incredible atmosphere.
“I don’t recall ever seeing anything like this before. There are 25,000 people here —it’s incredible.
“I’ve never seen anything like it. I have achieved success everywhere I’ve been, and I want to achieve success at Trabzonspor as well.”
However, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher remains unconvinced that Salah has made the right decision by signing a deal with Trabzonspor, claiming that he is far too good to be plying his trade in a league outside of Europe’s big five.

Speaking with Football Ramble, he said: “I never believed he was going to go to Saudi, because number one, he’s too good for that. I think he can be playing in Serie A.
“Turkey for me feels a level too low. I was convinced he’d end up at an AC Milan or Juventus or somewhere like that, maybe his wages were a problem.
“Looking at him, I don’t know him, obviously have never spoken to him. But he’s like [Cristiano] Ronaldo, he’s so driven, his numbers mean so much to him.
“I thought, he can still do this in Turkey by the way, but I thought he’d want to play at a real prestigious club. Obviously his wage demands have put a few people off but I thought he might almost curb those demands a little bit to almost get a better club.
“To go to an AC Milan or Juventus or whoever it may be, play at the San Siro, still playing in big games, still playing in Europe. Turkey just feels like…I just think he’s better than that.”
