17 Contestants Fell For The Same Trap! The 1% Club’s “Easy” Scissors Question Turned Into A Nightmare — And The One Detail Almost Everyone Missed Was Right There In Front Of Them It Was Supposed To Be One Of The Easiest Questions Of The Game. Then the picture appeared — and suddenly, 17 contestants were getting it wrong. On The 1% Club, a seemingly harmless 70% question left players second-guessing what they thought they could see. The challenge sounded almost laughably simple: “How many scissors are there in the image below?”

Comedian and TV host Lee Mack standing at a podium.

It looked like one of the simplest questions The 1% Club had asked all night.

Instead, it sent 17 players crashing out of the game.

The latest episode of Lee Mack’s popular ITV quiz once again put contestants’ common sense and logic to the test, with players needing to rely on what they could actually see rather than reaching for complicated general knowledge.

Then came the 70% question.

Lee showed contestants an image filled with scissors and asked a deceptively simple question:

“How many scissors are there in the image below?”

THE IMAGE THAT CAUGHT 17 PLAYERS OUT

Game show screen displaying the question "How many scissors are there in the image below?" above a photo of multiple scissors on a wooden floor.

At first glance, the answer seemed like it should be obvious.

The scissors were scattered across the image in a messy arrangement, with some pairs lying open while others were stacked or positioned differently on the floor.

But that visual clutter was exactly where the trap appeared to lie.

When the answers were revealed, 17 contestants had got it wrong — meaning they were immediately eliminated from the competition.

The correct answer?

Six pairs of scissors.

What looked like a straightforward counting exercise had suddenly become a major stumbling block.

WHY THE 1% CLUB KEEPS CATCHING PLAYERS OUT

That is precisely what makes The 1% Club different from traditional quiz shows.

The contestants aren’t necessarily being tested on obscure facts or specialist knowledge. Instead, the questions are designed to make people think differently — and sometimes the simplest-looking puzzles can create the biggest problems.

With 100 contestants beginning the game and everyone hoping to survive all the way to the coveted 1% question, every mistake matters.

For the 17 players caught out by the scissors puzzle, one seemingly simple visual question was enough to end their chances.

AND THERE’S A NEW 1% CLUB TWIST ON THE WAY

A game show question asking to count the scissors in the image, showing 6 scissors of various colors and sizes numbered 1-6, with the answer "6" below.

The latest episode also arrived as ITV prepares to expand The 1% Club universe with a children’s version of the hit show.

The special edition, recorded last year, puts 100 children in the contestants’ seats as they attempt to make it through the game and reach the final 1% question.

A first-look clip has already given viewers a glimpse of what to expect.

Lee Mack appears to be left completely puzzled when the young contestants introduce him to the viral “6, 7” trend.

After Lee asks about their seat numbers, the children respond by moving their hands up and down while chanting “6, 7.”

The phrase became closely associated with Gen Alpha after going viral, largely because of its deliberately nonsensical nature.

It was even named Dictionary.com’s Word of the Year, with the organisation describing it as a “burst of energy” that spreads between people without anyone necessarily agreeing on what it means.

For now, though, the lesson from the adult version is considerably simpler:

Never assume a 70% question on The 1% Club is going to be easy.
