Today fans are used to seeing Sheinelle Jones bust a move on the show, but not usually with a dance partner.
John Leguizamo appeared on the Tuesday, July 14, episode of Today With Jenna & Sheinelle to talk about his role in the highly anticipated film The Odyssey. He also showed Jones and Jenna Bush Hager some of his New York City favorites in the first-ever edition of “Celebrity Show & Tell.”
“Lastly, we know you love to dance, so do I, and you brought us in someone special. Tell us who you brought,” Jones said after trying Leguizamo’s favorite NYC tacos and tres leches cake. “I brought Manny and Adoralynn. They’re my choreographers, and we’re gonna do The Hustle.”
The dancers from Salsa en El Barrio impressed Jones and Bush Hager by dancing into Studio 1A. “They’re the best dancers. She was at the Bad Bunny [Super Bowl] Halftime [Show]. Manny’s choreographed a lot of my Broadway shows. He makes me look cool and hip,” Leguizamo gushed. “And we’re gonna do The Hustle, which was invented by Black and Latinos in New York City in the ‘70s, and it took salsa dancing but put it to a disco beat.”
Leguizamo and the dancers encouraged the show’s hosts to join in. While Bush Hager eventually gave up and returned to finish the tacos, Leguizamo grabbed Jones’ hand and led her in The Hustle. Jones used her dancing skills to keep up with the actor’s moves, and laughed when he pivoted styles by twerking and doing pelvic thrusts on the ground.

Fans reacted to the fun on-air moment via social media. “DISCO JOHN DISCO,” one user commented underneath a clip of the segment on the show’s official Instagram page. Another suggested, “Sheinelle would be PERFECT for dancing with the stars.” Someone else stated, “LOVE THIS and dancing in high heels too!”
A different person posted, “This was so fun to watch!!” A separate commenter stated, “You Go Sheinelle!! This was awesome to watch today!” One user gushed, “So cute great to see John making Sheinelle laugh.”
Jones has had many memorable dance moments on Today over the years, including her Foxxy Cleopatra from Austin Powers in Goldmember and Beyoncé “Cowboy Carter” Halloween performances. Most recently, Jones joined Zara Larsson on stage during her Today concert to do the viral “Lush Life” dance.
Many of the Today hosts’ kids were in attendance at the 30 Rockefeller Plaza. On the May 11 episode of Jenna & Sheinelle, Bush Hager joked that her daughter Poppy loved Jones’ on-stage moment with Larsson.
“That’s my daughter Poppy in the background, wishing Sheinelle was her mom. If we could zoom in close to Poppy’s face, Poppy’s like, ‘If only Sheinelle was my mother,’” she quipped while watching a clip of the “Lush Life” dance break. “They all were like, ‘Why couldn’t you be there, Mom? Why couldn’t you dance with Zara Larsson?’ And I’m like, ‘Well, you’ll have to ask your grandparents who gave me this DNA.
