Morgan Myles never expected to be standing on the Grand Ole Opry stage on the night the world learned of Dolly Parton’s death. But when the devastating news broke, the The Voice alum knew there was only one song she wanted to sing.
Myles was already scheduled to perform at the Opry when news of Dolly’s passing arrived Tuesday. Rather than continue with her original set, she reached out to the Opry and asked if she could perform “I Will Always Love You” — one of the songs most closely associated with Parton.
For Myles, the moment carried a significance that went far beyond simply paying tribute to a country music legend.
“WE LOST OUR LIGHTHOUSE”
Myles, who competed on Season 22 of The Voice, struggled to hold back her emotions as she addressed the audience.
“I’ve been crying all day because we lost our lighthouse,” she told the crowd, reflecting on what Dolly meant to women working in country music.
She explained that she had been scheduled to perform a different song, but after learning about Dolly’s death around 2 p.m., she immediately contacted the Opry to ask for permission to change her performance.
Then she stepped onto the same legendary stage where Dolly had performed countless times throughout her extraordinary career.
Before beginning the song, Myles admitted she wasn’t sure she could do Dolly justice.
But she knew the tribute had to happen.
A “GOD WINK” SHE NEVER EXPECTED
What made the evening even more emotional was the fact that Myles wasn’t originally supposed to be at the Opry that week.
She had only become a fill-in performer after circumstances changed the previous week.
Standing there on the night Dolly died, Myles couldn’t help but feel there was something almost destined about the timing.
“There’s something tonight that feels like a God wink,” she said.
For a singer who had admired Dolly’s career and influence, performing “I Will Always Love You” at the Grand Ole Opry on that particular night became an unforgettable full-circle moment.
DOLLY’S LEGACY FELT ESPECIALLY CLOSE AT THE OPRY
Dolly Parton’s relationship with the Grand Ole Opry stretched back more than five decades.
She first appeared on the famed stage as a teenager and went on to become one of its most beloved members.
That history made the Opry an especially fitting place to honor her following news of her death.
As Myles sang Dolly’s signature ballad, the performance became more than a rendition of a familiar classic. It was a younger generation of country music acknowledging the woman who helped make the path possible for so many artists who followed her.
Myles emphasized that Dolly’s impact wasn’t limited to her extraordinary talent.

Myles wasn’t the only person at the Opry determined to honor Dolly.
The organization planned a special Saturday-night show dedicated to remembering the country icon, while the Opry’s famous marquee was also set to remain lit in her honor in the days following her death.
The tribute was scheduled to be available to fans through WSM-AM, the Opry’s website and SiriusXM.
For country music fans, it was a fitting response to the loss of an artist whose influence stretched far beyond music.
Dolly began her life in a tiny Tennessee cabin surrounded by 11 siblings and eventually became one of the most recognizable and beloved figures in American entertainment.
And on the night she left the world, one of the artists inspired by her stood beneath the same Opry lights and sang her song.
Morgan Myles may have arrived as a fill-in. But on that night, she found herself exactly where she needed to be — saying goodbye to a “lighthouse” whose light had guided generations.
