What do you get when you take the light-up dance magic of Lightwire and add monsters, aliens and acowboy theme? Royal Lasers, the latest OMG Act on America’s Got Talent!
The Act started simply enough. It was Night 5 of Auditions for Season 21 when a three-person group took the stage dressed in casual clothing. One member, Cindy, introduced herself as well as her husband Josh, and their good friend Nick.
“We really believe in what we’re doing and that we’re going to make this happen,” she said, adding that as dancers in Las Vegas, they’d seen up-close how AGT can change lives. Like, really up-close. “We actually met doing the AGT residency in Vegas. We were two of the backup dancers and [Nick] was one of our choreographers,” explained Cindy. As Royal Lasers, this Audition was “our chance to put ourselves in the spotlight. As dancers we tend to be in the background so it’s our chance to step out and make it happen for ourselves.”
Then the lights went down, and visuals appeared that mixed Country Western imagery with outer space, a sort of Cowboys vs. Aliens rodeo dance show. The three dancers, now in light-up suits, appeared, only visible in Day-Glo outline, using whips made out of lasers to fight intergalactic monsters, all set to The Backstreet Boys’ “Larger Than Life.” By the end, confetti was raining down on the audience, everyone was out of their seats cheering, and the three dancers were overwhelmed and exhausted, but thrilled to have made it through their performance.

The moment was so exhilarating, they almost didn’t realize that Host Terry Crews was standing behind Judges Mel B, Howie Mandel, Simon Cowell, and Sofía Vergara, mic in hand, shouting for the crowd’s attention. “Yo! Yo!” he called out over the din. “Royal lasers! You gave us monsters! You gave us fire! So I’m gonna give you one thing! A Golden Buzzer!”
He reached forward and pressed the Golden Buzzer, triggering another flurry of confetti and of applause, and tears from the three dancers. Nick shared in the joy, and of course, Josh and Cindy kissed.
Backstage, Crews told them, “that was flawless,” though the ever-humble Cindy joked it was “the longest two minutes of my life.”

What Terry Crews loves about hosting AGT
Even when he’s not joyfully yelling about Golden Buzzer-worthy performances, Crews is still the host with the most. As the season started, NBC Insider caught up with the star to chat about his role at AGT, and he was truly so excited to be part of the family. “I’m so honored to be in this place. Because it’s such a wonderful show. It’s a feel-good show. I love this. He sees his role as “the party starter” for the audience and a guide for the performers.
“AA host realizes that the people he brings in and the people he invites, it’s about them. It’s not about the host. And my job has always been to deflect, get all the attention into these Acts. You know what I mean. And make sure they get the life that they deserve,” he told NBC Insider. “Because the courage that’s shown on this stage is very, very, very hard to do. You know what I mean, to get that kind of courage and take these kind of risks, I’m there for them. I’m there.”
