Dolly Parton’s Funeral Plans Revealed After Her Death at 80

Dolly Parton’s final farewell will be a deeply private one, carried out according to wishes she had made before her death at age 80.

Following the country music icon’s passing on Tuesday, Aug. 25, her representatives confirmed that her immediate family will hold a small, private funeral service in Nashville, Tennessee, in the coming days. The arrangements were made at Parton’s request.

Rather than a large public ceremony, the service will give Parton’s closest relatives the opportunity to remember her privately and honor the life and legacy she built over decades.

Parton will be laid to rest beside her late husband, Carl Dean, at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Nashville.

Her nephew and longtime head of security, Bryan Seaver, also revealed a particularly personal detail about the singer’s wishes. Before her death, Parton had asked to be laid to rest in a beautiful bed of plush cotton.

Seaver shared the request while announcing Parton’s death, explaining that after a lifetime of wearing heavy rhinestones, she deserved to be comfortable and finally have some rest.

Parton’s representatives have also confirmed that the funeral itself will remain private, in keeping with what she wanted.

Fans are being asked to honor her in another way

Although the funeral will be limited to immediate family, Parton’s team has offered her millions of fans around the world a way to take part in remembering her.

Fans and friends are encouraged to share their memories on social media by tagging Parton or leaving a message through her website.

The family is also asking people who might otherwise send flowers to make donations to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library instead. The literacy organization, founded by Parton in 1995, provides free books to children.

The request reflects one of the causes that remained central to Parton’s life and legacy, allowing tributes to continue supporting the work she cared deeply about.

Her family announced her death

Parton’s death was announced Tuesday by Seaver, who had served as her head of security for more than 20 years.

In an emotional video, Seaver said Parton had asked him years earlier to make the announcement when the time eventually came. He described the moment as an honor mixed with pride and profound sadness, while emphasizing that the sadness belonged to those who remained behind.

Parton died five days after she was reportedly hospitalized in Nashville with kidney and autoimmune issues. At the time of the funeral announcement, her cause of death had not yet been confirmed.
