Hollywood star Idris Elba has been seen filming scenes for the upcoming sequel to Luther: The Fallen Sun in London.
The 53-year-old British star was spotted by fans, who quickly shared videos on TikTok of the star in action.
In the short snippets, Elba was dashing along a road and past a Hamptons estate agents in Canary Wharf, presumably as DCI John Luther in hot pursuit of a suspect.
The camera and the crew could be seen in the video as fake rain machines pelted water down from the skies.

The video was shot yesterday (March 16) in the afternoon, according the TikTok user uktravel.
The video was captioned: “Idris Elba spotted filming scenes for the Luther sequel for Netflix in Canary Wharf, London.
“The whole area was turned into a film set, and the crew even created fake rain to shoot one of the scenes, making London look even more dramatic on camera.
“I even spotted his stunt double rehearsing the scene first before Idris Elba came in to film. Always exciting to randomly come across a movie set in London #canarywharf #london #idriselba #movieset.”
It appeared there were also many supporting artists with umbrellas as the tenacious detective was on the case.
At one point, it looked like Elba was getting ready to sprint through the rain again for another take.
In quintessential British style, many commented under the TikTok video about the weather: “Why would u need fake rain in England ?? [sic].”
A second posted: “it belted it down with real rain at 4pm” and a third added: “You mean it wasn’t actually raining , makes a change.”
A fourth person added: “We all love Idris, don’t worry I’m in Mallorca Spain and it hasn’t stopped raining for 5 days and freezing cold and windy, it’s actually colder than London. enjoy the shoot [sic].”
The scenes come after Netflix confirmed last year that Elba would be returning as the iconic London detective, known for his love of David Bowie and astute ability yet maverick sleuthing skills.
Alongside Elba, The Affair’s Ruth Wilson will reprise her role as the devious killer and psychopath genius Alice Morgan and Dermot Crowley returns as Martin Schenk.
Luther’s creator Neil Cross told Netflix’s Tudum: “Luther, Alice, and Schenk are more than characters to me — they’re family.
“I never stop wondering where they are, what’s become of them … and what horrors might be stirring in the shadows of London while Luther’s not around. So we decided to get together and find out what happens next.”
A teaser summary from Netflix reads: “When a wave of brutal, seemingly random murders hits London, Luther is secretly called back into service. But how can he save London when everyone on all sides seems to want him dead?”
Director Jamie Payne will also be returning to the franchise and praised writer Cross: “Neil has yet again created a wonderfully dark tale to bring us all back together. It’s a true joy to be back on the streets of Lutherland with the supreme talents that are Idris Elba and Dermot Crowley.
“I am also thrilled to be reunited with the brilliant and dangerous Alice Morgan, played by the extraordinarily talented Ruth Wilson. Fans new and old are in for a treat!”
The as-yet-untitled Luther movie will serve as a follow-up to the first movie 2023’s Luther: The Fallen Sun.
The new Luther movie is in production and there’s no release date as yet.
The scenes come after Elba was knighted by King Charles III and is now know as Sir Idris Elba. He received the honour in recognition of his work in the film, TV and entertainment industry.
