Meghan Reportedly Won’t Back Down. The Duchess Of Sussex Is Said To Be Unwilling To “Sacrifice Her Ego” To Make Peace With Princess Kate, Casting Fresh Doubt Over Any Hope Of A Royal Reconciliation

The Duke And Duchess Of Sussex Visit Australia - Day 3

Meghan Markle may be willing to explore a new relationship with Princess Kate following her return to Britain — but according to an insider, reconciliation will not come at the price of accepting sole responsibility for their years-long rift.

The Duchess of Sussex has returned to the UK with Prince Harry and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, bringing two royal couples whose relationship has been strained for years back into the same country.

That new reality has inevitably raised one question: could proximity finally help Meghan and Kate repair their relationship?

According to a source quoted by RadarOnline, Meghan is open to ending the hostility and understands that being on better terms with the Princess of Wales would make life easier for the wider family.

But the same source claims there are firm limits to how far she is prepared to go.

Meghan, they say, will not “grovel,” accept that everything that happened was her fault or approach Kate as though she alone needs forgiveness.

The source claimed Meghan is prepared to be “civil” and recognises the practical benefits of improving her relationship with Kate.

However, she reportedly believes any genuine reconciliation must involve acknowledgement and effort from both sides.

“Meghan is prepared to be civil and she recognises that rebuilding a relationship with Kate would make life enormously easier for everyone,” the source told RadarOnline.

But the insider added that Meghan would not return to Britain, “bow her head” and accept sole responsibility for everything that went wrong.

“In Meghan’s mind, reconciliation has to involve movement and acknowledgement from both sides,” the source claimed.

It is important to note that neither Meghan nor Kate has publicly confirmed that such negotiations are taking place. The claims come from unnamed sources and should therefore be treated as reports about the private relationship rather than established fact.

‘She isn’t going to bow to Kate’

Meghan Markle 'isn't willing to sacrifice her ego' to seal royal family peace deal

According to the insider, Meghan’s position has been shaped by her experiences during her previous years in Britain.

She reportedly believes she has legitimate grievances of her own and does not consider an apology from her alone to be a reasonable foundation for rebuilding the relationship.

The source claimed Meghan has reached a point where she is “simply not prepared to grovel to anybody” in exchange for acceptance within royal circles.

That reportedly applies to Kate as much as anyone else.

The insider suggested Meghan genuinely wants the hostility to end, particularly now that both families are once again living in Britain.

However, the source said the Duchess does not believe peace should require her to behave as though she alone caused the breakdown.

Instead, Meghan reportedly wants any future relationship with Kate to be built around “mutual respect and effort from both women.”

“She isn’t going to bow to Kate, beg for forgiveness or pretend that her own grievances never existed simply to secure a royal peace deal,” the source said.

A relationship strained long before the Sussexes left Britain

Tension between Meghan and Kate has been discussed publicly since before Harry and Meghan stepped away from royal duties in 2020.

One of the most famous disputes concerned an incident involving dresses for Meghan and Harry’s May 2018 wedding.

Early reports claimed Meghan had made Kate cry during a disagreement over Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress.

Meghan presented a different account during her and Harry’s 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, saying “the reverse happened” and claiming Kate had subsequently apologised and sent flowers.

Meghan also emphasised at the time that she did not consider Kate a bad person.

The controversy nevertheless became emblematic of the tensions surrounding the two royal households.

Harry later revisited the disagreement in his memoir Spare, offering his own detailed account of text exchanges between Meghan and Kate in the days before the wedding.

Those public disclosures did little to improve relations between the Sussexes and the Prince and Princess of Wales.

The wider Harry and William rift remains unresolved

Any attempt to repair Meghan and Kate’s relationship would also take place against the backdrop of the far deeper estrangement between their husbands.

Prince Harry and Prince William’s relationship deteriorated significantly around the Sussexes’ departure from royal duties and became increasingly public through interviews, the Netflix documentary series Harry & Meghan and Harry’s memoir.

Harry made a series of allegations about his brother in Spare, including describing a physical confrontation between them at Nottingham Cottage in 2019.

William has not publicly responded in detail to many of those allegations.

The brothers have appeared at the same major family events since the Sussexes moved to the United States, including Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022, but there has been little public evidence of a meaningful reconciliation.

Harry and Meghan’s return to Britain therefore places the unresolved relationship under renewed scrutiny.

Living in the same country changes the dynamic

The Sussexes are believed to be settling into a privately rented, non-royal property in the Cotswolds after returning from California.

Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, are expected to attend school locally, while Harry and Meghan intend to continue their charitable and professional work.

The arrangement does not represent a return to working royal life.

Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior working members of the Royal Family in 2020, and there has been no announcement suggesting that decision is being reversed.

Nevertheless, physically returning to Britain creates circumstances that did not exist when the Sussexes were living thousands of miles away in California.

Family gatherings, children’s milestones and major royal occasions could all create opportunities — or pressure — for the two sides to encounter one another.

For Meghan and Kate in particular, their children add another dimension.

Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are cousins to Archie and Lilibet, yet the two branches of the family have spent much of recent years living on opposite sides of the Atlantic.

Meghan reportedly sees her boundaries differently

The source quoted by RadarOnline characterised Meghan’s refusal to accept all responsibility not as an attempt to continue the feud, but as a personal boundary.

According to the insider, Meghan believes those boundaries are necessary to protect herself and her family after her previous experiences in Britain.

That distinction is central to the reported position.

She is said to be willing to explore whether a calmer relationship with Kate is possible, but not if reconciliation means abandoning her own version of past events.

For Meghan, according to the source, peace and capitulation are two very different things.

Kate’s own private position on such a reconciliation has not been confirmed.

Reports have repeatedly offered competing accounts of how the Princess feels about Meghan and Harry’s return, but Kensington Palace has not publicly detailed her feelings toward her sister-in-law.

Could the return create an opportunity for a reset?

The Sussexes’ decision to spend an extended period in Britain could either intensify the existing tension or create opportunities that were impossible while they lived primarily in California.

Simply being geographically closer does not resolve years of mistrust.

But it removes one obvious barrier.

Meghan and Kate no longer need a transatlantic journey simply to find themselves in the same place, while their children’s lives in Britain could create more potential points of contact between the families.

Whether either woman wants to use those opportunities remains unknown.

The latest claims suggest Meghan may at least be willing to consider a less hostile relationship.

But if the insider’s account accurately reflects her thinking, she has also drawn a clear line around what that reconciliation can look like.

She reportedly wants civility. She may even want peace.

What she is not prepared to do, according to the source, is achieve it by accepting that the breakdown of the relationship was entirely hers to fix.

With Harry and Meghan now back in Britain, that distinction could become increasingly important.

For the first time in years, distance is no longer the biggest obstacle separating the Sussexes and Waleses.

The much harder question is whether either side is prepared to move.
