Noah Cyrus Breaks Her Silence On Dolly Parton With An Emotional Tribute And Her Words About Sister Miley’s Beloved Godmother Are Hitting Fans Hard. Reflecting On Dolly’s Extraordinary Place In Their Family, Noah Shared One Heartbreaking Thought About How The Country Legend’s Music Will Live On: ‘A Friend When Lonely.’

Noah Cyrus Waited for Sister Miley to Say Goodbye Before Sharing Heartbreaking Dolly Parton Tribute: ‘She Was a Rainbow to Our World’

Noah Cyrus has paid sweet tribute to Dolly Parton following the country music icon's death at age 80

Noah Cyrus deliberately waited until her older sister Miley Cyrus had spoken publicly about the death of Dolly Parton before sharing her own emotional farewell to the country music legend.

The 26-year-old singer posted her tribute on Instagram on Thursday, two days after Parton died at the age of 80. Alongside a collection of photographs spanning the country icon’s life and career, Noah explained why she had remained silent at first.

“I wanted the first words you heard to come from Miley, and now that she’s spoken, I’d like to share a few words about Dolly,” she wrote.

What followed was a deeply personal reflection on a woman whose connection to the Cyrus family extended far beyond music.

Noah remembers Dolly as ‘one of a kind’

The Tennessee-born singer, who is Noah's sister Miley' godmother,  died on Tuesday after 'a brief battle with cancer', her team said in a statement (Dolly pictured with Miley)

Noah described Parton as an irreplaceable presence whose influence stretched across almost six decades.

“Dolly was singular, one of a kind,” she wrote. “Dolly was a rainbow to our world for nearly six decades, and no one could ever come nor will ever come close to replacing her.”

For Noah, that influence was also deeply personal.

She credited Parton with inspiring her development as an artist, praising not only her songwriting but the compassion and generosity that defined her public life.

“Her impact on the world, and on me as an artist, is unparalleled,” Noah wrote, calling Parton “an angel among us.”

She said Parton never forgot her roots or abandoned the qualities that made her distinctive, while consistently using her success to help others.

Noah also reflected on the bond Parton shared with the Cyrus family, particularly Miley, who was Parton’s goddaughter.

“Her beautiful relationship with my family, especially my sister, is one I will be grateful for my entire life,” she wrote.

‘Wear those wigs, have those long nails’

Noah took to Instagram on Thursday, a day after her sister Miley wished her godmother goodbye on social media, to share her own message on the hitmakers legacy

Parton’s influence on Noah extended to both her creative identity and her sense of self-expression.

The singer thanked the country legend for inspiring her “to be who I am,” specifically mentioning the wigs and long nails that became such recognizable elements of Parton’s image.

More importantly, Noah said Dolly encouraged her to tell her own stories through songwriting and to recognize music’s ability to help people through difficult moments.

Despite her heartbreak, Noah emphasized that she sees Parton’s physical death as only one part of her story.

“She came into this world, shared her light, and changed it forever,” she wrote.

Noah predicted that Parton’s songs would continue comforting people through loneliness, accompanying happier moments and inspiring generations of songwriters who discover her work in the future.

She concluded her farewell with an emotional message: “Dolly, you got your wings. We will ALWAYS love you.”

Miley Cyrus had shared her own private grief one day earlier

Just the day before Noah's post, Miley penned a heartbreaking tribute to her godmother

Noah’s decision to wait carried particular significance because Dolly’s relationship with Miley stretched back to the pop superstar’s infancy.

Miley shared her own tribute Wednesday, describing the difficulty of putting such a personal loss into words.

“The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share,” she wrote.

Rather than reveal everything about their relationship, Miley said some of their most meaningful memories would remain private — “behind the stage, beneath the glamour & between our hearts.”

She nevertheless shared what she believed Parton would want her to do next.

“What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong,” Miley wrote. “I have an angel by my side. I always have.”

Miley also revealed that one of their final conversations centered on “music and metamorphosis.”

“I will always love her and want to make her proud,” she added, saying her heart was breaking for Parton’s family, friends and everyone mourning her loss.

“We’re in this loss together and we will see her in all of the most beautiful things.”

How Dolly Parton became Miley Cyrus’ godmother

The godmother had complete confidence in Miley's future from the start and even did a guest role on the pop star's Disney Channel series Hannah Montana back in 2006

Parton’s place within the Cyrus family began through her friendship with Miley and Noah’s father, Billy Ray Cyrus.

Speaking to Good Morning America in 2009, Parton explained that she had known Miley since she was a baby.

According to Dolly, Billy Ray asked her to become his daughter’s godmother when Miley was born, and she immediately accepted.

Although there was never a large formal ceremony, Parton said she considered Miley almost like one of her own.

That relationship eventually became visible to millions of young viewers when Dolly guest-starred on Miley’s Disney Channel phenomenon Hannah Montana beginning in 2006.

But Parton saw considerably more in her goddaughter than the teenage television character that had made her famous.

Speaking to AOL Music in 2008, Dolly praised Miley’s abilities as both a singer and songwriter, saying the young star was writing with a maturity far beyond her years.

“She writes songs like she’s 40 years old!” Parton said. “She’s really deep.”

Dolly was also confident that Miley’s success would continue long after Hannah Montana ended, predicting that her goddaughter would have “a big career.”

That prediction proved remarkably accurate.

Parton’s death followed months of health concerns

Parton died Tuesday at age 80 following what her team described as a brief battle with cancer.

According to the account shared by her family, she had been admitted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville the previous Friday amid autoimmune and kidney problems.

Her nephew Bryan Seaver, who also served as her head of security, later confirmed her death in an emotional Instagram video.

Seaver said the announcement was something his aunt had asked him to make years earlier, long before he was ready to contemplate actually having to deliver it.

He described Parton as having “lived in the light” and said he believed she was now reunited with her late husband Carl Dean, her parents and other loved ones.

Family members had begun traveling to Nashville after learning that Parton had been hospitalized, although some reportedly did not arrive before her death.

A six-decade legacy that reaches far beyond country music

Parton leaves behind one of the most celebrated careers in American music.

Over six decades, the Tennessee-born singer and songwriter became known around the world for classics including “Jolene,” “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You,” while her unmistakable personality and philanthropy expanded her influence far beyond the country charts.

Her death followed months of concern about her health after she withdrew from a number of public appearances.

Yet Noah Cyrus’ tribute focused less on those final months than on what Parton leaves behind.

To Noah, Dolly was not simply her sister’s famous godmother or one of country music’s defining figures. She was an example of how an artist could remain unmistakably herself while using music, generosity and compassion to touch other people’s lives.

And by waiting for Miley to say goodbye first, Noah made clear just how deeply she understood the unique bond between her sister and the woman they knew as Aunt Dolly.
