‘THIS SHOW FEELS LIKE True Detective ON STEROIDS’ — Fans Are Calling This ‘Dark’ Cr*me Drama Starring a Line of Duty Favorite the Twisted, Chilling, Sleep-Destroying Thriller Nobody Expected to Become Their Next Obsession

HBO Max has released an official teaser for its upcoming drama Lanterns, which is based on the DC comic characters from Green Lantern.

The series, which stars Laura Linney (Ozark), Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights), Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) and Kelly Macdonald (Line of Duty, Dept. Q), will be released on 17 August on HBO Max.

The show is co-created by Chris Mundy (Ozark), Damon Lindelof (Lost) and Tom King (Mister Miracle). Chris, who also serves as showrunner, was an executive producer on the hit crime drama True Detective, and if Lanterns is half as dark and compelling as the acclaimed anthology series, viewers are in for a treat!

The story follows two intergalactic cops investigating a murder, new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler).

The trailer begins with a close-up of a Green Lantern ring, with Hal Jordan telling John Stewart: “This ring. It’s the greatest weapon in the universe.”

He later says: “Danger is part of the job. You need to be fearless.”

The trailer concludes with John Stewart telling Laura Linney’s character: “I was raised fearless and I’ll do this better than he’s ever done it before.”

She responds, “Then go and get it, John Stewart,” before a final shot shows John Stewart wearing a Green Lantern ring.

What to expect from Lanterns

The show synopsis reads: “The series follows new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”
