What should have been one of the happiest moments of Elena’s life turned into a public humiliation when Beatriz, her future mother-in-law, stepped into the aisle, seized the bride’s elegant silk gown and made it clear she believed Elena did not belong in their world.

The wedding hall had been arranged with meticulous care. Natural light spilled across the immaculate white décor as Elena walked toward the ceremony in an off-the-shoulder silk dress. Everything around her suggested elegance, celebration and perfection.

Then Beatriz stepped forward.

There was little attempt to disguise the contempt on Beatriz’s face as she grabbed the delicate fabric of Elena’s gown.
