‘Impossible to Solve’ The 1% Club Question Leaves Contestant Stumped
A seemingly impossible sequence question on The 1% Club left one contestant struggling to find an answer, even with 30 seconds on the clock. The brainteaser, presented by host Lee Mack, proved so confusing that she could barely decide which letter should come next.
The challenge was part of the popular quiz show’s series of logic-based questions, designed to test contestants’ ability to spot patterns under pressure.

A Letter Sequence That Left Sally Lost
During the episode, Lee Mack presented the question:
“What is the next letter in the sequence? SENTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT”
Contestant Sally looked baffled as she tried to make sense of the unusual arrangement of letters. She appeared unsure even before the countdown began, and despite carefully examining the sequence, she could not identify a pattern.
“I don’t know it,” she admitted.
Mack encouraged her to take another look, telling her to relax and focus on the letters. But as the 30-second countdown continued, Sally became increasingly frustrated, eventually putting her head in her hands.
With time running out, the presenter pointed out that she had a one-in-26 chance of guessing correctly and suggested she might as well try naming a letter.
Sally still struggled to commit to an answer, eventually revealing that she had entered the letter E.
Mack then revealed the correct response: F for Forty. The letters represented the initials of the numbers from seventeen through to thirty-nine.

A NOON Puzzle Causes More Confusion
The sequence challenge was not the only The 1% Club brainteaser to leave contestants confused. Another question, recently highlighted by the Mirror, tested players on how many times they could find the word NOON in a grid of 16 letters.
The grid was arranged in four rows of four, with contestants asked to search for the word in a straight line. They could read it forwards or backwards, horizontally, vertically or diagonally in either direction.
Mack introduced the challenge by asking: “How many ways can you read NOON in a straight line in this grid: forward, backward, up, down or in either direction diagonally?”
The contestants were then given time to study the grid and submit their answers.

Despite the relatively small number of letters, the puzzle proved surprisingly difficult. As the clock ran down, the camera showed players looking uncertain about how many possible combinations they could find.
When the answers were checked, four contestants had failed the challenge, leaving just eight players in the game.
Mack explained that NOON appeared twice horizontally, twice vertically and once diagonally. However, because the word reads the same forwards and backwards, each occurrence could be counted in both directions.
The explanation caught several contestants off guard. Many had believed the puzzle would be straightforward because it involved only 16 letters, but the final count proved more complicated than they had expected.
