Lainey Wilson met Dolly Parton for the first time at the 2023 ACM Awards. Parton presented the trophy for Female Artist of the Year to Wilson during the ceremony.
“I can’t believe I just met Dolly Parton, first of all, ‘Whoa!’” Wilson said after sharing a hug with Parton onstage.
Wilson went on to deliver one of the most inspiring speeches of the night, saying:
“I tell you what, everybody in this category didn’t just wind up there by happenstance; they have worked their fingers to the bone, they have put blood, sweat and tears, and years into this. Made so many sacrifices missing a lot of weddings and a lot of funerals. Not that I want to go to all of them anyway, but I’m just saying. Oh my goodness! For the little girls watching this: this right here is thanks to hard work. If you’re gonna be a dreamer, you better be a doer.”
Around the time of the ACM Awards, Parton revealed that she recorded a duet with Wilson. They remade The Judds’ “Mama He’s Crazy” for a tribute album released on October 27, 2023.

Dolly Parton Enlists Lainey Wilson For “I Will Always Love You” Duet During Her Dolly Parton’s Pet Gala Special On CBS
Dolly Parton and Lainey Wilson got the chance to sing together again during Dolly Parton’s Pet Gala Special that aired on CBS on February 21, 2024.
The two singers united to perform Parton’s iconic song “I Will Always Love You.” It was clearly a “pinch me” moment for Wilson, who later reflected on their collaboration.
“Dogs, dolly, & a little sparkle…three of my favorite things,” Wilson said in a post on social media. “Sharing a stage with the queen herself @DollyParton to perform, ‘I Will Always Love You,’ was a dream come true.”
Wilson also posted a short video of her “I Will Always Love You” duet with Parton. The clip opens with Wilson singing solo. Parton jumped in on the chorus to offer up some stunning harmonies.
