Alison Hammond’s Emotional Tribute Left Fans Fighting Back Tears As She Shared The Heartbreaking Sacrifice Behind Her Success. The Beloved TV Star Opened Up About The Personal Cost Of Building Her Career, Delivering A Message That Struck A Chord With Parents Everywhere And Reminded Everyone That Some Achievements Come With A Price.

This Morning presenter Alison Hammond has opened up about a message from her mum.

The Great British Bake Off presenter, 51, recalled when her mum was really ill in hospital, before she died from lung and liver cancer in January 2020.

Alison, who has often spoken about her mum who she was so close to, revealed her mum urged her to lose weight, and admitted that it caused her to change.

The star has been refreshingly open about her health transformation in recent years, having shed an incredible 11 stone after a pre-diabetes diagnosis.

Alison’s mum had been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes before her death, and speaking on Tuesday’s This Morning, she said: “I’ll never forget when my mum when she was really ill in hospital, I’ll never forget the day when she looked at me, and she’s never commented on my weight in my whole life,” reports the Mirror.

“And she said, ‘Alison, don’t end up like me, try and sort out your weight’.

“I was 30 stone that day and the fact that it came from my mum, who was like my core values and everything like, that’s the day I changed.”

Alison went on to say: “So if it’s done in love, and you can see someone genuinely loves you and wants the best for you, and wants you to start loving yourself, honestly it meant so much to me.”

Alison announced her mum Maria’s death on Valentine’s Day in 2020, after laying her to rest the day before.

Paying tribute on social media, she wrote at the time: “Today I dedicate Valentine’s Day to my beautiful, wonderful Mother Maria who passed away from liver and lung cancer.

“Yesterday my family and I celebrated her amazing life and laid her to rest in a beautiful ceremony she would have been proud of.

“Thank you mummy for giving me the strength to move forward in the knowledge that your ok and with God in Heaven now. I will always remember you and try and make you proud. I love you mum [sic].”

She also said on X: “I am dedicating this Valentines to my beautiful Mother who sadly passed away from liver and lung cancer .

“My family and I layed mummy to rest yesterday in a beautiful ceremony which I know she would have loved. RIP my best friend and Living Angel please come to my dreams.”
