Carrie Underwood has officially returned as the performer of the Sunday Night Football opening theme!
On Tuesday (August 4th), it was confirmed that Underwood will be back for her 14th season as the star of the SNF opener. She has been performing the theme since 2013, following in the footsteps of Pink and Faith Hill.

Although there were a few years when she performed new songs (“Oh, Sunday Night” and “Game On”), Underwood has sung the traditional SNF theme, “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night,” for most of her tenure. The song is based on “I Hate Myself for Loving You,” the classic hit from Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.
Underwood revisits “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night” in this season’s theme. As she and NBC teased in a press release, they’re fully leaning into a rock-and-roll tone this time around.
“This year’s show open welcomes Sunday Night Football into my ongoing rock star fever dream,” Underwood said. “I love this new version of the track and, once again, [creative director] Tripp [Dixon] and the incredible team behind the camera brought it to life in a whole new way that captures the spirit of this iconic song and the heart of rock ‘n’ roll. It’s one of my most favorite opens yet!”
A sneak peek of the new SNF opener was shared during the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game on Thursday, August 6th.
The short video shows Underwood embracing her inner rock star while wearing an all-black outfit and tall boots. The few scenes we see of the American Idol alum and judge show her performing in a stadium, with guitar and drums driving the song.
As Underwood belts out how she’s “waiting all day for Sunday night,” the camera zooms in and pyrotechnics blast off behind her onstage.
