LIVERPOOL ARE ABOUT TO HAVE A NEW POWER PLAYER…JEFF BEZOS SET TO TAKE A HUGE STAKE AS FSG AGREES A SHOCK SALE. Liverpool could be on the brink of a major ownership shake-up after reports that Fenway Sports Group has agreed to sell a huge stake in the club to Jeff Bezos. The potential deal would bring one of the world’s wealthiest businessmen into the Liverpool ownership structure, immediately raising questions about the club’s ambitions, spending power and future direction. And if the deal goes through, the biggest question won’t be how much Bezos is buying—it’ll be what he intends to do once he gets inside Anfield.

The billionaire Amazon founder has been in talks over buying a stake in Liverpool FC, and a deal with the consortium led by Amit Bhatia could be announced this week.

Jeff Bezos is closing in on a Liverpool stake

A consortium led by Amit Bhatia, with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, are closing in on a deal to buy a stake in Liverpool. The stake is said to be ‘roughly one third.’

The Reds’ current owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), confirmed that a group has approached them to buy a stake in the club, managed by Bhatia. A statement read: “An investment consortium led, managed, and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club.”

According to Sky News, the deal would see Mr Bezos join an investor group that also includes Eduardo Saverin, the Facebook co‑founder. The syndicate is headed by Bhatia, the son‑in‑law of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal and, until recently, a shareholder in Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

The report states that FSG, the club’s controlling shareholder since 2010, is preparing to announce a transaction ‘as soon as this week.’ While an update is expected in the coming days, it’s also suggested the timeline could ‘slip into next week.’

If completed, the deal would see a trio of the world’s richest men become co‑owners of the Reds – one of English football’s most successful clubs.

The deal will see Mr Bezos participate in an investor group alongside Eduardo Saverin, one of the co-founders of the social network Facebook.

Mr Bezos’ wealth is estimated by Forbes at over $280bn (£207bn), with Mr Saverin said to be worth more than $32bn (£23bn). With that, the trio’s investment would reportedly value Liverpool at around $6bn (£4bn), making it one of the richest deals in the sport’s history.

There has been a surge in American involvement across the Premier League, with half of the 20 clubs now predominantly owned by US‑based investors.

Mr Bezos has previously explored major sporting investments, most notably in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders, but ultimately chose not to pursue either bid.

Meanwhile, Mr Saverin was part of a consortium that mounted an unsuccessful takeover attempt for Chelsea FC during the 2022 auction triggered by Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

As for FSG, who also own MLB giants the Boston Red Sox, they have been custodians of Liverpool since 2010, having rescued the club from the brink of administration under former American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

On the pitch, Liverpool last won the Premier League title in 2024/25 but now face a season of transition following the sacking of head coach Arne Slot and the departure of Mohamed Salah. So far this summer, the Reds have signed Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz and Ronald Araujo on loan.Bradley Barcola has also been earmarked as a priority attacking target, with Paris Saint‑Germain open to selling the Frenchman. However, talks have yet to produce a breakthrough.
