Princess Eugenie Reveals Newborn Daughter’s Name After Two-Week Wait — With a Special Tribute to Queen Elizabeth II

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank have finally introduced their newborn daughter by name, revealing a choice filled with family connections and links to both British and Portuguese history.

The couple, who welcomed their third child in Portugal on Aug. 3, announced on Monday, Aug. 17 that their baby girl is named Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank.

Eugenie, 36, shared the news on her personal Instagram account alongside three new photographs of Adelaide, including a sweet image of the newborn with her older brothers, August Philip Hawke, 5, and Ernest George Ronnie, 3.

“2 weeks ago today we welcomed our girl to the world. And since then we’ve had the most special, cosy and love-filled time,” Eugenie wrote.

“We are so happy to share Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank,” she continued. “Named after three people we love and admire past and present, including her Great-Grandmother who we hold close in our hearts.”

“Her name is part of English and Portuguese history, two places we love and call home.”

Eugenie concluded with an update on her sons: “Augie and Ernie are already the best big brothers.”

Elizabeth Continues a Royal Family Tradition

The inclusion of Elizabeth is a tribute to Eugenie’s late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, who died in 2022 after a historic 70-year reign.

The late Queen’s name has been carried through multiple generations of the royal family.

Eugenie’s sister, Princess Beatrice, has Elizabeth as a middle name, as do their cousins Zara Tindall and Lady Louise.

Several of Queen Elizabeth’s great-grandchildren also carry the name, including Princess Charlotte, Lena Tindall, Sienna Mapelli Mozzi and Athena Mapelli Mozzi.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose another deeply personal tribute when naming their daughter Lilibet, after Queen Elizabeth’s childhood nickname. Their five-year-old daughter is known within the family as Lili.

With Adelaide Elizabeth Annina, Eugenie has now continued that tradition with her own daughter.

The Royal History Behind the Name Adelaide

Adelaide carries another significant royal connection.

According to Nameberry, the name means “noble” and became particularly prominent in Britain through the German-born princess who married King William IV in 1830 and became Queen Adelaide.

Known as “Good Queen Adelaide,” she also inspired the name of the Australian city of Adelaide.

There is an additional connection between Queen Adelaide and Eugenie’s own wedding.

Royal reporter Rebecca English noted that two diamond wheat-ear brooches commissioned by William IV for Queen Adelaide were later worn by Eugenie in her hair during the evening reception following her 2018 wedding.

English also reported that the baby’s first name was partly inspired by Maria Adelaide, a Portuguese woman regarded as an honorary saint despite never being formally canonized.

The final part of the baby’s name, Annina, reportedly reflects a “personal connection” for Eugenie and Jack.

Adelaide Was Born in Lisbon

The British royal family first announced Adelaide’s arrival on Aug. 4, one day after her birth, but did not disclose her name.

The announcement included a photograph of the newborn in a pink onesie and hat taken by Jack.

“Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr. Jack Brooksbank are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, born on Monday, 3rd August 2026, at 6:20 pm, at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal,” the official statement read.

Adelaide weighed 6 pounds, 9 ounces at birth.

“Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of The Royal Family were delighted to be informed of the news,” the statement added.

Eugenie also celebrated the arrival on Instagram at the time.

“Jack and I are so excited to announce Baby Girl Brooksbank!! We are beyond in love with our girlie,” she wrote.

The couple live part-time in Portugal because of Jack’s work, making Lisbon another meaningful connection behind their daughter’s name.

Adelaide Becomes 15th in Line to the Throne

Adelaide’s birth also changed the British line of succession.

Eugenie currently occupies the 12th position, followed by her three children. That places Adelaide 15th in line to the British throne, behind her older brothers August and Ernest.

She is Eugenie and Jack’s first daughter and third child.

The couple married on Oct. 12, 2018, after dating for seven years. Their royal wedding took place at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, with Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip and numerous members of the royal family attending.

Eugenie Has Focused on Her Growing Family

Neither Eugenie nor her older sister, Princess Beatrice, is a working royal, and both have maintained relatively low profiles in recent months amid continuing controversy surrounding their parents.

In October 2025, King Charles stripped the former Duke and Duchess of York of their royal honors and titles amid renewed scrutiny of their ties to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Andrew has repeatedly denied wrongdoing in connection with Epstein, while Sarah Ferguson has not been accused of wrongdoing.

In February, Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office in connection with an allegation that he shared confidential information with Epstein while serving as a U.K. trade envoy.

Following the arrest, a source told PEOPLE that Beatrice and Eugenie hoped to distance themselves from the controversy as they concentrated on their own families.

“They have young children, and this is their grandfather — their focus is on protecting their own children from this,” the source said.

For Eugenie, the latest chapter has instead centered on the arrival of her first daughter.
