You Lost the Crowd. They Thought It Was 17171. The 1% Club’s Deceptively Simple 10% Numbers Question Left Viewers Completely Divided — Yet Every Contestant Still Survived The Round

We all know the feeling. Sitting at home with a cup of tea, watching a quiz show and feeling like we could easily beat the contestants. Then a question comes along and suddenly that confidence disappears.

ITV’s The 1% Club has become a perfect example of this. Hosted by Lee Mack, the show puts 100 members of the public through a series of questions designed to test common sense, logic and intelligence.

Contestants who successfully answer a question that only one percent of the nation managed to get right can win a share of up to £100,000.

Now, one of the show’s questions has resurfaced on TikTok, and it has left viewers divided over what should have been a fairly straightforward answer.

Can you work out the next number?

Would you be able to answer this?

The question, read out by Mack, was part of the 10% round.

It described Lee driving when he noticed that his milometer showed 16961, a number that reads the same forwards and backwards.

The question was: what would be the next mileage that also reads the same forwards and backwards?

It sounds simple enough, but plenty of viewers admitted they were completely stuck.

The correct answer is 17071.

And while that might seem obvious once you know it, the comments suggested plenty of people had taken a different approach.

One viewer admitted: “You lost me. I thought it was 17171.”

Another summed up the experience more bluntly: “I got one correct. Do I get a prize?”

Some people were even surprised that the question appeared in the 10% round.

“No way this was a 10% question,” one commenter wrote, accompanied by a laughing emoji.

Others came up with answers including 17971, 19691 and 18881, while another viewer joked: “My dumb a** would’ve been out.”

Of course, there were also plenty of people who thought the answer was obvious.

People reckon it's an easy question.

The 1% Club has a habit of causing arguments

That mix of confidence and confusion is exactly what makes The 1% Club so entertaining. A question can look incredibly easy when someone else gives you the answer, yet feel surprisingly difficult when you have to work it out yourself.

The show has produced plenty of similar moments, including another question involving a bat and a ball.

It asked:

“A bat and a ball cost £1.10 in total. The bat costs £1 more than the ball. How much does the bat cost?”

The correct answer is £1.05, but viewers were left baffled by that one too.

So, whether you confidently got 17071 straight away or were sitting at home wondering where on earth the answer came from, The 1% Club continues to prove that quiz-show questions can be much harder than they look.

@meetmaxinetv It’s a 10% question from ITV’s TV quiz the 1% club. Everybody seems to be getting this question right but would you have? Please like, follow and comment. Answer spoiler: @ @ @ @ @ Answer: 17071 #itv #tv #brainteaser #theonepercentclub #quiz ♬ оригинальный звук – 𝗞 𝗔 𝗭 🇰🇿
