Princess Eugenie’s baby daughter has one of the royal family’s longest names
Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank have finally revealed the name of their newborn daughter — and the unusually long moniker carries a deeply personal meaning.
Born on 3 August 2026 in Lisbon, Portugal, their third child has been named Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank. The couple waited two weeks before announcing her name, sharing the news on 17 August.
Their daughter arrived at 6.20pm and weighed 6 pounds 9 ounces. She joins her older brothers, August Philip Hawke, 5, and Ernest George Ronnie, 3.
A name chosen with meaning
Eugenie explained that Adelaide’s name was inspired by three people the couple love and admire, both from the past and the present.
The Princess also revealed that the name reflects two places that are particularly important to the family: England and Portugal. Adelaide was born in Lisbon, where Eugenie and Jack live part-time because of Jack’s work.
The choice therefore combines family memories with the couple’s connection to both countries.
A tribute to Queen Elizabeth II
The middle name Elizabeth carries a particularly poignant family connection.
It honours Eugenie’s great-grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, whom the Princess has previously spoken about with great affection.
Elizabeth is also a recurring name among the younger generation of the royal family, appearing in the names of several of the late Queen’s great-grandchildren.
Eugenie described her grandmother as someone the family continues to hold close in their hearts, making the tribute especially meaningful.
What does Adelaide mean?
The name Adelaide has English and royal historical associations, while its meaning is generally given as noble.
The third name, Annina, is less familiar. According to The Bump, Annina can mean God has favored me or grace.
Together, Adelaide Elizabeth Annina gives the newest Brooksbank a name that combines tradition, family heritage and personal significance.
Joining the royal family’s next generation
Adelaide is the third child of Eugenie and Jack, who married in October 2018 after seven years of dating. Their wedding took place at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle and was attended by Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip and numerous members of the royal family.
Although Eugenie and her sister Princess Beatrice are not working royals, their families remain part of the wider royal household.
The official announcement of Adelaide’s birth came on 4 August, one day after she was born. The Royal Family said King Charles and Queen Camilla, along with other members of the family, were delighted by the news.
