Princess Eugenie’s baby daughter carries a subtle royal tribute in her name
Princess Eugenie has revealed the name of her newborn daughter, and one part of the name appears to carry a particularly meaningful connection to the royal family.
The baby girl, born in Lisbon on 3 August 2026, has been named Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank. Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, announced the name two weeks after her birth, explaining that it honours three people they love and admire.
The couple shared the news alongside photographs of their daughter and her two older brothers, August, 5, and Ernest, 3.
A tribute to Queen Elizabeth II
The most immediately recognisable part of Adelaide’s name is Elizabeth.
The middle name pays tribute to Eugenie’s late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, who died in 2022. Eugenie has previously spoken warmly about the close relationship she shared with her grandmother, making the choice especially significant.
Eugenie explained that the name was chosen in honour of people from both the past and present whom she and Jack love, admire and respect.
The reference to Queen Elizabeth is particularly poignant as Adelaide is part of the next generation of the family and carries her great-grandmother’s name forward.
The royal history behind Adelaide

Adelaide also has a strong connection to British royal history.
Queen Adelaide was the wife and consort of King William IV, who reigned during the 19th century. The name therefore gives Eugenie’s daughter a direct link to a royal figure from Britain’s past.
There is also a connection to Portugal, the country where Adelaide was born and where Eugenie and Jack spend part of their time.
The name is associated with Princess Maria Adelaide of Portugal, adding another layer to the choice and reflecting the couple’s links to both British and Portuguese history.
A possible clue from Eugenie’s wedding

Interestingly, there may have been a subtle hint at the name years before Adelaide was born.
At her 2018 wedding to Jack Brooksbank at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, Eugenie wore diamond ear brooches that had belonged to Queen Adelaide.
The detail takes on new significance following the announcement of her daughter’s name, although Eugenie has not publicly said that her wedding jewellery was intended as a clue to the name.
The connection nevertheless adds another intriguing link between Queen Adelaide and the newest member of the Brooksbank family.
A name with personal meaning

The third name, Annina, is less familiar within royal circles and appears to have a more personal significance.
Royal reporter Rebecca English has indicated that Annina comes from a personal connection, while Eugenie herself described Adelaide’s full name as being inspired by three people the couple love and admire.
Together, Adelaide, Elizabeth and Annina create a name that brings together royal history, family memory and personal connections.
Adelaide is Eugenie and Jack’s third child, following their sons August Philip Hawke and Ernest George Ronnie.
Her arrival adds another member to the younger generation of the wider royal family, while her carefully chosen name ensures that links to the past remain firmly woven into her future.
