Meghan Markle’s past concerns about taking her children to school in Britain have resurfaced following the Sussex family’s return to the UK — but the experience of Prince William and Princess Catherine suggests the reality can be very different from the scenario she once described.

The Duchess of Sussex said in a 2022 interview that she believed taking her children to school in Britain would expose the family to constant attention from photographers.

Four years later, Meghan is once again living in the UK with Prince Harry, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, who are expected to attend school in Britain.

Yet there have so far been no paparazzi photographs of the Sussex children arriving at school — while William and Catherine have been quietly managing their own school runs for years without photographers routinely documenting them.

Meghan raised her concerns in 2022

The comments date back to Meghan’s interview with The Cut, published two years after she and Harry stepped away from royal duties and moved to the United States.

During the interview, Meghan discussed what she believed family life would have looked like had Archie attended school in Britain.

She suggested that school drop-offs and pickups would have involved a designated area for photographers, leaving her children exposed to unwanted attention.

Meghan strongly defended her concern as one of parental protection rather than simply a desire for privacy.

“Sorry, I have a problem with that,” she said. “That doesn’t make me obsessed with privacy. That makes me a strong and good parent protecting my child.”

The comments attracted significant attention at the time and became part of a wider discussion about Harry and Meghan’s relationship with the British press.

William and Catherine regularly do the school run

The experience of the Prince and Princess of Wales, however, has been cited as evidence that royal parents can take their children to and from school without being photographed every day.

William and Catherine are known to be closely involved in the school routine of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Despite the enormous public interest surrounding the Wales family, photographs of their everyday school runs are not routinely published.

The children have instead been photographed on specially arranged occasions, including their first day at school.

Such appearances are organized in advance rather than being the result of photographers following the family through their ordinary daily routine.

That arrangement has allowed George, Charlotte and Louis to experience a greater degree of privacy around school despite their prominent positions within the Royal Family.

Archie and Lilibet have not been photographed either

Harry and Meghan’s own experience since returning to Britain may also prove significant.

Archie and Lilibet have reportedly been enrolled at a British school as the Sussexes begin their new life in the UK.

If the children have already started attending, there has so far been no comparable flood of paparazzi photographs showing them being dropped off or collected.

Meghan herself has not been photographed undertaking a school run either.

That does not establish what will happen throughout the family’s extended stay in Britain, but their first days back have not produced the kind of daily school-gate photography Meghan feared in her 2022 interview.

Security may now be the bigger concern

While the paparazzi issue has returned to the spotlight, more recent reports suggest Meghan’s concerns about the school run may now center on security.

The Sun reported that a friend of the Sussexes said the predictable nature of taking children to school at regular times could create worries for Harry and Meghan.

“The school run is a tricky issue and I understand they are nervous about it,” the friend reportedly said.

A fixed routine naturally means leaving and returning at similar times each day, something the couple may consider when assessing their security arrangements in Britain.

The report therefore presents a somewhat different concern from the one Meghan raised four years ago.

Her 2022 comments focused heavily on press intrusion and photographers. The latest claim centers more specifically on the potential security implications of a predictable family routine.

The Sussex children begin a very different chapter

The issue has become more relevant because Archie and Lilibet are entering a dramatically different period of their childhood.

Both spent most of their early years in California after Harry and Meghan left Britain in 2020.

Their return means attending school in Harry’s home country and potentially living much closer to members of their extended family.

It also brings the Sussexes back into an environment they previously left amid intense disputes over privacy, security and press attention.

For Meghan in particular, ordinary routines such as taking the children to school could provide an early test of whether life in Britain feels different from what she expected four years ago.

William and Catherine have established a different model

William and Catherine’s approach demonstrates how one high-profile royal family has managed to separate official public appearances from everyday parenting.

Their children appear at major royal occasions and sometimes in photographs released by their parents, but their routine journeys to and from school generally remain outside the public spotlight.

The fact that the location of their school is publicly known has not resulted in photographers documenting every arrival and departure.

That contrast is now being used by critics of Meghan’s earlier comments to argue that her fears about a permanent school-gate press presence were overstated.

However, the circumstances surrounding the two families are not identical.

Harry and Meghan have a particularly contentious history with sections of the British press, while their security arrangements also differ from those available to William and Catherine as senior working royals.

Meghan’s 2022 comments face a real-world test

For now, there has been no public indication from Meghan herself that she has repeated her earlier claim since returning to Britain.

The renewed debate is based on comments she made in 2022 rather than a new statement about photographers following Archie and Lilibet.

Likewise, the absence of photographs during the family’s first days back does not guarantee that privacy will never become an issue.

But it does provide an early contrast with the scenario Meghan once feared.

William and Catherine have spent years quietly carrying out school runs without a daily barrage of paparazzi photographs, and Harry and Meghan’s children have so far also remained out of view.

The bigger question for the Sussexes may therefore no longer be whether cameras will be waiting at the school gates every morning.

Instead, as their children settle into British life, it could be whether Harry and Meghan feel sufficiently secure and comfortable to embrace the same ordinary routine that William and Catherine have managed largely away from the cameras.
