Sir Tom Jones Stunned As The Voice UK Contestant Reveals His Mother Was On The Show 10 Years Ago
Sir Tom Jones was left speechless on The Voice UK when an 18-year-old contestant revealed that his mother had appeared on the show a decade earlier.
Regan Preece, from Swansea, stepped onto the stage during Saturday night’s final round of blind auditions on October 3. But his audition quickly became much more than a chance to impress the coaches.
Regan’s mother, Shellyann, had previously competed on The Voice UK in 2015, making her son’s appearance an emotional full-circle moment for the family.
Regan Preece Follows In His Mother’s Footsteps

Before taking the stage, Regan and Shellyann watched footage from her time on the show 10 years earlier.
For Regan, seeing his mother perform had helped inspire his own musical ambitions.
“Being on set, all the bright lights, the loud music – that inspired me,” he explained. “I kind of want to follow in her footsteps.”
But singing is not Regan’s only passion. The teenager also plays rugby every day and admitted that he may eventually have to choose between the sport and music.
“With rugby and singing, eventually I will have to choose one,” he said. “I’m constantly in two minds, but we’ll see what the future holds for me.”
Shellyann, meanwhile, encouraged her son ahead of his audition, telling him: “This is your time now.”
“Today, I’m Making My Family Proud”

Regan was clearly aware of what the audition meant to his family.
His mother had reached the knockouts when she competed on the show, and Regan said seeing how proud she had made everyone was something he would never forget.
“So today, I’m making my family proud,” he said. “It means more than the world to me.”
For Shellyann, watching her son finally have his own moment on the same stage was overwhelming.
“Watching Regan today, this is like full circle,” she said, before jokingly telling herself to pull herself together.
Then it was time for Regan to perform.
His Audition Leaves The Coaches Turning
Regan delivered a rendition of Zach Bryan’s 2022 hit “Something in the Orange” that quickly caught the attention of the coaches.
Sir Tom Jones turned his chair, as did McFly’s Tom and Danny Jones, giving Regan two coach options.
But the biggest surprise came after the performance.
Regan turned toward Sir Tom and revealed that there was already a connection between the two of them.
“I do know someone you know,” he told him.
Then came the revelation: his mother had appeared on The Voice UK in 2015.
Sir Tom was visibly stunned by the news.
A Mother And Son Share The Stage

Shellyann soon joined her son onstage, proudly watching him enjoy the moment she had experienced herself a decade earlier.
“It’s pretty amazing this, to see my baby do his thing and have his moment,” she said. “It’s the best feeling in the world!”
The emotional family moment was followed by another highlight when Regan performed a duet with Danny Jones, prompting cheers from the audience.
Ultimately, Regan chose Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher as his coaches.
Turning to Sir Tom, he offered an apology: “Tom, I’m very, very sorry.”
Viewers Loved The Full-Circle Moment
The unusual connection between Regan and his mother quickly caught viewers’ attention.
One viewer posted on X: “Danny Jones duetting with Regan!”
Another praised the two generations of performers, writing that it was remarkable to see Regan audition after his mother had appeared on the show years earlier.
Others simply praised Regan’s talent, with one viewer telling Sir Tom: “Yes Tom, Regan is so good.”
For Regan and Shellyann, however, the night represented something even more personal: a mother who once stood on The Voice UK stage watching her son step into the same spotlight 10 years later.
The Voice UK is available to stream on ITVX.
