A Three-Hour Time Difference Sparked A Surprising Debate… The 1% Club US Final Question Left European Viewers Baffled By How Easy It Seemed, With Two Contestants Facing A Clock Puzzle That Many Believed Had No Place Near The Final!

Europeans Are Questioning The US Version Of The 1% Club After Its Final Question Leaves Viewers Calling It “Far Too Easy”

The US version of The 1% Club has sparked debate among viewers after an episode featuring a series of seemingly straightforward questions left contestants struggling. The biggest talking point came at the very end, when the final question was considered so easy that some viewers questioned whether it deserved its place among the show’s toughest challenges.

The discussion has even prompted comparisons with the European versions of the quiz, with some viewers joking that people across the Atlantic must approach these questions differently.

In the UK, the show is hosted by comedian Lee Mack, whose quick wit has become a familiar part of the programme. Even the British version has faced criticism over questions that some audiences consider too simple, but the reaction to the American edition has been particularly fierce.

The controversy centres on Season 1, Episode 11, in which several contestants appeared to struggle with questions that viewers online believed should have been easy to answer.

Europeans can't understand how The 1% Club final question is 'so easy' on US version of show

A Sleeping Bat Leaves Contestants Stumped

The episode got off to a surprising start with a question about animals and how they sleep.

Contestants were shown three pictures: a koala sleeping in a tree, a red panther lying on a branch, and a bat hanging upright. They were then asked: “Which of these heavy sleepers has had their picture turned upside down?”

The first question was so easy (Amazon Prime Video / Fox)

The intended answer was the bat, whose usual sleeping position made it the obvious choice for viewers watching at home. Yet some contestants still got the question wrong, leaving audiences baffled.

One viewer took the opportunity to make a political dig, writing: “I wonder if the 3 that got the 1st question wrong will be voting on 4 Nov? Can they even write.”

The reaction set the tone for the debate that followed, with viewers questioning why such a seemingly simple question had caught people out.

The Final Question Sparks Even More Criticism

If the opening question surprised viewers, the final challenge prompted an even stronger reaction.

As the remaining contestants competed for a place among the nation’s most intelligent one per cent, the last two standing, Jared and Steve, faced a question about the time difference between New York and Los Angeles.

The question read: “The Pacific Time Zone is 3 hours behind the Eastern Time Zone, and Daylight Saving Time put the clocks forward one hour at 2 a.m. on March 12, 2023. When it was 4 a.m. in New York on March 12, 2023, what time was it in Los Angeles?”

The final question left people angry (Amazon Prime Video / Fox)

The answer was midnight, and both Steve and Jared made it through to the final two.

However, some viewers were left wondering how the question could be classed as a five-per-cent question, given that it appeared to require little more than applying the time difference and accounting for daylight saving time.

One commenter explained their reasoning in detail: “How was the time in LA a 5% question? They just told you the difference is normal 3 hours but daylight savings moves the clock forward an hour at 2am local time, 3+1=4, so if it’s 4am in NY it must be midnight in LA, not too hard at all.”

For those viewers, the calculation seemed far too straightforward to justify its position among the show’s most difficult questions.

The 50% Question Divides Viewers

The debate wasn’t limited to the opening and closing challenges. Another question, presented during the middle of the episode, also caught the attention of viewers.

For the 50% question, contestants were asked: “What would this person see if they looked in the mirror?”

Some of the questions even fooled the audience (Amazon Prime Video / Fox)

They were shown four images based on an original picture of a girl holding a sunflower above her head. The other options featured slight alterations or inverted versions of the original, requiring contestants to identify what the girl would actually see in a mirror.

Some viewers felt the answer should have been easy to spot, making the number of incorrect responses particularly surprising.

One person watching the clip commented: “Easy to see this is an American quiz. How are all of the questions so easy?”

Another viewer shared a similar opinion, writing: “I got all of them right. maybe in Europe we are different.”

The comments reflected a growing sense among some international viewers that the questions in the American edition were much easier than expected, particularly for a show built around identifying the one per cent of the population capable of answering its toughest puzzles.

However, not everyone found the questions straightforward.

One viewer admitted that they had initially been doing well before being caught out by the mirror challenge, writing: “I was doing so well until I got tripped up by the 50% question in the latter game.”

The differing reactions suggest that, while some viewers breezed through the episode’s challenges, others found them more difficult than expected.

With the opening animal question, the mirror puzzle and the final time-zone calculation all attracting attention, Season 1, Episode 11 has given fans plenty to debate about the difficulty of the US version of The 1% Club.
