The 1% Club Contestant Makes Show History With £100K Jackpot Win – But Could You Have Solved The Question That Left Three Finalists Stumped?
One university student walked away with the biggest possible prize on The 1% Club Rollover, while three other finalists failed to crack the same question. But the winning moment was not just about luck – it came down to spotting a clever pattern under pressure.

A £100K WIN THAT NOBODY SAW COMING
Wednesday evening’s episode delivered a historic result when Lucie Alcock, a university student from Liverpool, successfully answered the show’s notoriously difficult 1% question and secured the entire £100,000 prize.
The victory came during The 1% Club Rollover, a spin-off of the popular Lee Mack-hosted quiz. Unlike the regular format, contestants who reach the 1% question get the opportunity to return the following day and continue competing.
Lucie had already admitted early in the programme that she never expected to get so far. At the 15% question, she confessed: “I didn’t think I’d get this far.”
She also revealed that she and her boyfriend had both applied to appear on the show, but she was the only one selected.
“We both applied but I’m the only one who got on, so I’m trying to, like, win something for us both,” she told Lee.
As the competition reached its final stages, all available passes had been used. That meant the full £100,000 was now within reach – but only for someone capable of solving the ultimate challenge.

THE QUESTION THAT SEPARATED THE WINNER FROM THE REST
Lucie faced three other finalists, all attempting to answer the same 1% question:
What letter of the alphabet replaces the question mark in this sentence: ANGLE RE GON ?
The other three contestants got it wrong.
Lucie, however, spotted the pattern and delivered the correct answer: N.
The solution relied on recognising four geometric shapes hidden within the sequence:
- Triangle
- Square
- Pentagon
- Hexagon
Each shape’s name has letters removed from the beginning, with the number of missing letters corresponding to the number of sides in that shape.
The final answer was therefore N, representing Hexagon.
It was a deceptively simple-looking puzzle that left three other finalists struggling, but Lucie managed to work it out and claim the entire jackpot.

LUCIe’S REACTION LEFT LEE MACK ASKING ONE QUESTION
Even after getting the answer right, the student appeared almost unable to process what had just happened.
Once her £100,000 victory was confirmed, Lee Mack asked her: “How long did it take you to get that?”
Still visibly stunned, Lucie giggled and replied: “About half the time.”
She then added: “Oh, my god.”
Her achievement was particularly significant because she became only the second person to win the full £100,000 on the programme, following Clarke Carlisle, who secured the prize during a celebrity special.

VIEWERS COULDN’T BELIEVE WHAT THEY HAD JUST WATCHED
Lucie’s remarkable victory quickly sparked reactions from viewers on X, with one celebrating the fact that the full jackpot had finally been claimed again.
“Only once before has the full £100k has been won & that was in a celebrity special well before the rollover became a thing. Tonight, Lucie has scooped the whole shebang. And she will be back tomorrow along with the other 4 finalists. #The1PercentClub,” the viewer wrote.
But while Lucie managed to find the answer, plenty of people watching at home were left completely baffled by the puzzle.

One viewer joked: “I might have got it, in 30 days but not 30 seconds.”
Another admitted: “That was so random. How the hell did she get that.”
Lucie’s win was just one of the major moments in this week’s Rollover competition, which gives contestants the opportunity to compete across multiple episodes for a potential £500,000 prize.
And while she has already secured an extraordinary £100,000, her appearance is far from over – she is set to return alongside the other four finalists the following day.
