Jeremy Clarkson Stopped Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Mid-Game To Apologize After One Piece Of Advice Cost A Contestant £7,000—And The Studio Fell Completely Silent

Jeremy Clarkson made a heartfelt comment towards a contestant after she experienced a huge loss on Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?. The show aired on ITV on Wednesday (July 22), with the broadcaster showing an episode that originally aired in 2020. The final contestant to play was Bev Beesley, who successfully guessed the correct order of four foods based on the locations they were named after.

Bev made it past the £16,000 question and opted to set her safety net at £32,000. But as fans know, she had to answer the question correctly to guarantee the cash prize. She was asked: “Which of these musical instruments is played using a keyboard?” Her four options were, “Euphonium”, “Melodica”, “Sitar”, and “Theremin”.

Bev began to eliminate whichever answer she could, sharing her thoughts that a euphonium is a brass instrument that is “blown into”.

She added that a sitar is a stringed instrument, concluding that it was between melodica and theremin.

“Really vaguely, at the back of my mind, theremin, I might’ve heard of,” she said.

Jeremy was quick to remind Bev that if she answered the question wrong, she would lose £15,000, but if she got it right, she would win £16,000.

“But then you’ve got a free chance at 64 and you’re into mega money,” he said.

Bev argued that she wasn’t taking too much of a risk because she could confidently discount two of the answers.

After deliberating further, Bev decided to lock in theremin as her final answer.

It was at that moment Jeremy was forced to reveal that she had just lost £15,000.

“No, Bev,” the presenter said as he put his head in his hands. “I’m so sorry.”

Sharing his thought process, he quipped: “All I was thinking was melodica sounds like a ’70s word when they were inventing things like the Moog.”

He went on to explain that a melodica is a type of harmonica with a mouthpiece and a keyboard.

“That’s a rotten bit of luck,” he added, announcing that Bev was leaving the show with £1,000.

As the music started to prompt Bev’s exit from the chair, Jeremy halted to the programme to say one more thing.

“And I’d just like to say… never has one human being uttered so many words in such a short period of time and I’ve loved listening to them,” he told Bev.
