Victoria then asked for further clarification.

Team captain Nick Ridgman responded: “I can go as far as Ken Livingston, I’m afraid.”

Victoria decided to accept the answer and explained her reasoning: “Well, I’ll take that answer – some of them are still mayors, the notable thing is they’re all inaugural mayors.”

That decision prompted another wave of reaction from viewers watching at home.

One complained: “They said ‘former mayors.’ That’s wrong. Never should have got that point!”

Another questioned the way the answer had been handled, writing: “Why was that mayor’s question allowed? They got it wrong. VCM just makes arbitrary decisions as she goes it should be more strict than that.”
