A university student from Liverpool has made television quiz history after answering a notoriously difficult question on The 1% Club Rollover to win the show’s entire £100,000 prize. Lucie Alcock stunned host Lee Mack and viewers at home by solving the final puzzle, which left three other contestants struggling to find the correct answer.
The remarkable win came during Wednesday evening’s episode of the ITV quiz show, with Lucie admitting she had never expected to make it so far in the competition.

Lucie Alcock Wins the Full £100,000 Prize
The 1% Club Rollover is a spin-off of the popular quiz show hosted by Lee Mack. Contestants who successfully reach the final 1% question are given the opportunity to return the following day, adding another layer of competition to the format.
During Wednesday’s episode, Lucie progressed all the way to the final question before securing the £100,000 jackpot. By the time the game reached its decisive moment, every available pass had been used, leaving the full prize up for grabs.
The Liverpool university student had already expressed surprise at her progress earlier in the show. When she reached the 15% question, she admitted that she had not expected to get anywhere near the final stages.
Lucie also revealed that she and her boyfriend had both applied to appear on the programme. However, she was the only one selected to take part, and she entered the competition hoping to win something they could share.
“We both applied but I’m the only one who got on, so I’m trying to, like, win something for us both,” she told Lee during the show.
Her ambition became a reality in spectacular fashion when she outperformed the three other finalists and answered the last question correctly.
Could You Have Solved the Final 1% Question?
The puzzle that secured Lucie’s victory appeared simple at first glance, but its underlying logic proved difficult for the other contestants.
Lee Mack presented the final four players with the following challenge:
What letter of the alphabet replaces the question mark in this sequence: ANGLE RE GON ?

The correct answer was the letter N.
The puzzle relied on identifying a pattern involving the names of shapes and the number of letters missing from the beginning of each word. The sequence referred to a triangle, square, pentagon and hexagon, with the number of omitted letters corresponding to the number of sides each shape has.
The final answer was therefore N, representing the missing letter in the sequence associated with a hexagon.
Although Lucie successfully identified the pattern, the other three finalists failed to answer the question correctly, allowing her to claim the entire £100,000 prize.
Following the reveal, Lee asked the stunned student how long it had taken her to work out the answer.
“I have to ask, Lucie, how long did it take you to get that?” the presenter said.
Still struggling to believe what had happened, Lucie giggled and replied, “About half the time,” before exclaiming, “Oh, my god”.
Her reaction reflected the scale of the achievement, particularly given that she had earlier admitted she never expected to reach the final question.

A Rare Achievement in The 1% Club History
Lucie’s victory placed her among an exceptionally small group of contestants to have won the show’s full £100,000 prize.
Before her success, Clarke Carlisle had claimed the entire jackpot during a celebrity special. Lucie became the only other person to achieve the feat, marking a significant moment in the programme’s history.
The win quickly attracted attention on social media, where viewers celebrated the student’s achievement.
One enthusiastic viewer wrote on X: “Only once before has the full £100k has been won & that was in a celebrity special well before the rollover became a thing. Tonight, Lucie has scooped the whole shebang. And she will be back tomorrow along with the other 4 finalists. #The1PercentClub“
The post highlighted the rarity of the result and pointed out that Lucie would return for the following day’s episode alongside the other four finalists.

Viewers Left Stumped by the Winning Answer
While Lucie managed to solve the final puzzle, many viewers watching at home were far less confident about the answer.
Some admitted that they would have needed considerably more time to work through the sequence, while others expressed disbelief at how quickly the student appeared to understand the question.
One viewer joked on X: “I might have got it, in 30 days but not 30 seconds.”
Another viewer was equally baffled, writing: “That was so random. How the hell did she get that.”
The reactions reflected the challenge at the heart of The 1% Club, where questions are designed to test logical reasoning rather than simply reward general knowledge. Even a seemingly straightforward puzzle can become difficult when contestants have only a limited amount of time to identify the underlying pattern.
Lucie’s success demonstrated how a single correct answer can make all the difference when the entire jackpot is at stake.

The Rollover Spin-Off Offers an Even Bigger Prize
Lucie’s historic win comes as The 1% Club Rollover airs throughout the week, giving successful contestants the chance to return and compete again.
The spin-off raises the stakes by allowing players who reach the 1% question to continue into the next day’s competition. The format also offers contestants the opportunity to pursue a prize of up to £500,000.
For Lucie, however, the immediate achievement was already extraordinary. Having entered the competition hoping to win something for herself and her boyfriend, the university student instead walked away with the full £100,000 jackpot.
Her victory also gave the show another memorable moment, as she became only the second contestant to win the entire £100,000 prize after Clarke Carlisle’s success in a celebrity special.
And while the final question left many viewers scratching their heads, Lucie proved she had spotted the pattern when it mattered most.
