Australian rock icons Powderfinger are preparing to return to the stage, announcing an 18-show national tour that will mark their first run of concerts since their split in 2010. The Brisbane band will perform across six Australian cities in September and October 2027, giving longtime fans and a new generation of listeners the chance to experience their music live.
The tour will feature outdoor performances staged beneath a stadium-sized big top tent, with organisers describing the events as a blend of festival and spectacle. The announcement follows a series of cryptic clues from the band in recent days, culminating in confirmation that the five members are reuniting after 16 years apart.
Powderfinger Return to the Stage After 16 Years
Formed in Brisbane in 1989, Powderfinger became one of the most celebrated acts in Australian music history. The band released five ARIA number one albums and won 18 ARIA Awards before bringing their career together to an end in 2010.
Their influence has also been reflected in triple j’s Hottest 100, where their songs have appeared 22 times, including two wins. More recently, three Powderfinger tracks featured in last year’s Hottest 100 of Australian Songs.
The reunion announcement comes after days of speculation, with band members confirming they were responsible for the mysterious clues that had fuelled rumours of their return.
For fans who have waited since the band’s farewell, the newly announced concerts will be their first opportunity to see Powderfinger perform a full run of shows together in more than a decade and a half.
Six Cities, 18 Shows and a Stadium-Sized Big Top
The 2027 tour will begin in Powderfinger’s hometown of Brisbane before travelling to Cairns, Perth, Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne over two months.
Rather than conventional indoor arena performances, the band will play outdoor venues in central locations across the six cities. Each concert will take place under a large big top tent designed to deliver a stadium-scale experience.
The tour’s organisers have described the concept as part festival and part spectacle, with Australian performers joining Powderfinger throughout the national run.

The band is expected to reveal the participating artists in November, coinciding with Ausmusic Month.
The commitment to Australian performers will give audiences an opportunity to discover local acts alongside one of the country’s most recognisable rock bands, while reflecting the tour’s broader celebration of Australian music.
