Why Prince George Will Never Have A Roommate At Eton — And The Real Reason Is Raising Eyebrows

All About Eton College, Prince George's New Boarding School with a Rich Royal Family Tradition - Yahoo News UK

Forget the polished royal smiles and picture-perfect school photographs — Prince George’s move to Eton could come with one surprisingly strict rule: no roommate.

The future King is expected to begin life at the prestigious school this September, following in the footsteps of his father, Prince William. But while other pupils may be getting used to sharing their space, George’s arrangement is set to look rather different.

And frankly, it is not hard to see why.

Why Prince George's strict Eton bedroom rule is all about 'self-discipline'

George is not simply another 13-year-old arriving with a suitcase and a school uniform. He is second in line to the throne, meaning even the most boring details of his teenage life can become headline material.

Imagine trying to sleep after a long day at school while knowing that practically everything about your life could attract public curiosity.

Not exactly the recipe for teenage privacy.

That is where the private-room arrangement becomes particularly interesting.

George’s parents, William and Kate, have spent years trying to give their children as normal an upbringing as possible while knowing that normality has limits when you are raising a future monarch.

And William, in particular, knows those limits all too well.

His own childhood was played out under the relentless gaze of photographers. The experience left a lasting impression, and it is hardly surprising that protecting George from unnecessary intrusion appears to be a major priority.

So while other pupils may be worrying about exams, friendships and who has eaten the last biscuit, George has another problem entirely: being the future King while trying to survive being a teenager.

A private room could provide one crucial escape.

No cameras. No curious spectators. No accidental audience when he wants to shut the door and forget about royal life for a few hours.

But here is the delicious irony.

George may have a room to himself, yet privacy could be one thing he never truly gets.

Every appearance, friendship and school milestone is likely to attract attention precisely because of who he is.

That is the strange contradiction of royal life: the future King may have his own bedroom, but the entire country seems to want a window into it.

Still, the arrangement should not be mistaken for George being completely cut off from his classmates.

Eton’s boarding environment offers plenty of opportunities for friendships, activities and the kind of teenage chaos that comes with school life.

The difference is that George’s version of that experience will inevitably come with a royal-sized spotlight hovering overhead.

And perhaps that is exactly why his parents want him to have somewhere he can close the door.

One teenager. One private room. One enormous royal future waiting outside — because when your surname comes with a crown, even getting some peace and quiet becomes a surprisingly complicated affair.
