Kelly Clarkson, Riley Green, Queen Latifah and Adam Levine Join Forces for ‘The Weight’ on ‘The Voice’
With the premiere of The Voice Season 30 just days away, the show’s coaches are already giving fans a reason to tune in — and their latest performance brings together four very different musical styles.
Kelly Clarkson, Riley Green, Queen Latifah and Adam Levine have teamed up for a rendition of The Band’s classic “The Weight,” continuing the long-running tradition of The Voice coaches joining forces for a special performance.
The new performance, released ahead of the season premiere, gives each coach a moment in the spotlight while gradually building toward a full-group chorus.

Four coaches, one classic song
Green opens the performance on acoustic guitar, setting the tone before Levine moves behind the drums for the first verse. As the song develops, Clarkson, Queen Latifah and Green watch, move along to the music and eventually join Levine for the chorus.
Their voices come together for the first major group moment, creating a blend of country, pop, soul and rock influences.
Queen Latifah then takes the lead with her powerful vocals before Green returns for another verse, continuing to accompany himself on guitar.
Clarkson delivers the closing section barefoot, bringing a soulful vocal finish to the performance and once again showcasing her versatility as a singer.
“The Weight,” originally released by The Band in 1968, has remained one of the group’s best-known songs and was later included on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

A new coaching lineup with some familiar faces
Season 30 marks the return of two The Voice alumni: Clarkson and Levine. Queen Latifah and Green, meanwhile, are stepping into the coaching role for the first time.
For Green, the experience has also offered a different kind of performance challenge from his recent work on screen.
During an appearance on the Superstar Power Hour podcast, the country singer said being a coach on The Voice is “a lot easier than acting.”
Green recently made his acting debut on Marshals, appearing alongside Luke Grimes as a character carrying significant personal baggage.
He explained that the role required him to portray a former Marine with PTSD, a serious subject that demanded him to step outside his own experiences and approach the character carefully.
By comparison, Green said The Voice allows him to simply be himself.
“It’s something I haven’t lived through. I’ve got to get out of my skin, and on The Voice I’m just being me.”

Green’s strategy for winning over contestants
Green has also revealed how he plans to use his personality and sense of humor when competing for contestants.
Rather than relying solely on his musical background, he said his approach involves having some fun with his fellow coaches — particularly Levine.
“All you have to do is just make fun of Adam for being old, talk about how famous Queen Latifah is, and then talk about how much more country you are than Kelly Clarkson so that they pick you.”
With the Season 30 coaches now taking the stage together, fans are getting an early glimpse of the chemistry among the new lineup.
The Voice Season 30 premieres Monday, September 21, at 8/7c on NBC.
