Only 1% of People Can Solve This Tricky The 1% Club Clock Puzzle – Can You?
A challenging brainteaser involving a digital clock left contestants on The 1% Club scratching their heads, with the solution depending on spotting a detail that is easy to overlook. The question tested whether players could work out how often all six digits on a 24-hour clock change at exactly the same moment.
The puzzle appeared on the ITV quiz show hosted by Lee Mack, where contestants face increasingly difficult challenges for the chance to win a substantial cash prize.

The question was:
“On a digital 24-hour clock that displays hours, minutes and seconds, how many times in each 24-hour period do all six digits change simultaneously?”
One contestant suggested the answer might be 24, reasoning that all the digits would change together whenever the clock moved into a new hour.
However, that was not the correct solution.

The Answer Behind the £99,000 Puzzle

Lee Mack introduced the reveal by reminding contestants that the question could have been worth £99,000.
He then announced that the correct answer was three, adding: “It’s 3! You did right not to gamble.”
The explanation appeared on screen, identifying the three moments when every digit changes at once:
- 09:59:59 becomes 10:00:00
- 19:59:59 becomes 20:00:00
- 23:59:59 becomes 00:00:00
These are the only three transitions during a 24-hour cycle in which all six digits on the clock change simultaneously.
The reveal brought visible relief and excitement in the studio. The female contestant who answered correctly was delighted, while the explanation showed why the puzzle was more complicated than it first appeared.
