Blake Shelton stepped away from The Voice in 2023 after a record 23-season run and nine wins as a coach, but he can’t seem to stay away for good. On Tuesday, May 20, the country music hitmaker returned to the singing competition show to sing his latest chart-topper “Texas,” during the Season 27 finale.

For Shelton’s performance, the stage was transformed into a middle-of-nowhere setting with the only things in sight being a sign that clearly reads “Welcome to Texas” and what appears to be a desolate bar with “Texas” spelled out in big letters on top of the building. The country star was illuminated by a spotlight above the shiny black stage and brought up the energy with the up tempo tune.

His signature Oklahoma-bred vocals lit up the room with the infectious lyrics penned by Johnny Clawson, Kyle Sturrock, Josh Dorr and Lalo Guzman. The song follows Shelton as he wonders where his ex-girlfriend disappeared to after their breakup. While out at a bar, people keep asking, “Where’s she been?” but he doesn’t have an answer because he hasn’t seen or heard from her in weeks. Eventually, he comes to believe she’s made her way to the Lone Star State.

The chorus gives a nod to George Strait’s 1987 hit, “All My Ex’s Live in Texas” as Shelton sings, “She’s probably in Texas/ Amarillo all I know/ George Strait said it/ Yeah that’s where all them exes go/ If she ain’t with me out here in Tennessee/ Then I don’t know where she’s headed/ If I’m guessin’, I reckon/ She’s probably in Texas.”

With the accompaniment of pyro, his band members and pure excitement from the audience, this performance could easily be considered a stand-out moment of the night.

“Texas” is the first single Blake Shelton has released under his new label, BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville and Wheelhouse Records. The song has already had a major impact on his career, earning him his 30^th No. 1 hit, and appears on his newest album, For Recreational Use Only.

To make the night even more sentimental, Blake Shelton’s team member that brought in his final win on the show, Bryce Leatherwood, also took the same during the final to perform “God Made,” a song of his self-titled debut album.

Following Shelton and Leatherwood’s performances, as well as appearances from several other musical guest artists like Kelly Clarkson, Joe Jonas, and Chance The Rapper, the winner of Season 27 was finally unveiled.

After all of America’s votes were tallied up, Host Carson Daly revealed that Adam David was officially the winner of The Voice Season 27, marking a second straight victory for coach Michael Bublé. The South Florida native earned the title over finalists Jadyn Cree (Team Bublé), Jaelen Johnston (Team Ballerini), Lucia Flores-Wiseman (Team Levine), and RENZO (Team Legend).
