Royal watchers are over the moon at the latest announcement from the palace. Yep, there’s a new baby in town, and wow, is she cute! Well, at least the part we can see is cute. In her first official photograph, the new arrival is clad in a pink onesie with just a peek of red cheek and cute little earlobe visible. But we’ll take it.
It’s been more than a year since we’ve had a royal baby gracing the palace grounds, when Princess Beatrice and husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi welcomed baby Athena in January 2025. Read on to learn all about the latest royal family member, and join us as we say welcome to the world, baby girl!

Which royals just welcomed a baby girl?
Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank. The newest member of the royal family was born on Aug. 3 at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal, where her parents have split their time since 2022. The royal family shared on its official Instagram account that the baby arrived safely at 6:20 p.m. local time and weighed 6 pounds, 9 ounces.
What’s her name?
That’s a great question, and we’ll be the first to update you when we find out.
Hopefully, we won’t have to wait long. The typical wait for a royal baby name announcement runs anywhere from a couple of days (as with Kate and William’s children, George, Charlotte and Louis), to a week, like with Eugenie herself. Occasionally, though, the wait stretches longer: Back in 1948, the public had to wait more than a month to learn what Charles’s name would be!
Is this the couple’s first baby?

Nope, but it is their first girl. Eugenie and Jack also have two sons, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank (nicknamed Augie) and Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank. Augie is now 6 years old, and little Ernest is 3.
The two boys made the social media rounds in May when Eugenie announced her pregnancy. In a sweet photo, Augie and Ernest were seen holding an ultrasound picture of their now-arrived baby sister.
The new baby lands at 15th in the line of succession to the British throne. Her mother, Eugenie, is 12th, and her brothers are 13th and 14th. (Dad Jack is not included in the lineup.)
Why did this announcement come as a bit of a surprise?
Eugenie is the daughter of the disgraced former prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, who have both seen their status fall in recent years after their involvement with Jeffrey Epstein came to light. Since the revelations, Eugenie and her family have mostly taken a backseat at royal engagements.
In June, Eugenie and her sister, Beatrice, were invited to Princess Anne’s son Peter Phillips’s wedding, but royal insiders reported that William and Kate gave them the cold shoulder. The sisters also did not attend the royal Easter celebration this year, although the palace said at the time that they would likely be invited to future events.
New babies do have a way of bringing people together, so perhaps this latest announcement (which came on the official royal family Instagram account, after all) means a return to normalcy for the beleaguered royal sisters.
