A contestant on The 1% Club has left viewers impressed after correctly solving a question that was described as one of the show’s toughest.
Michael was given just 30 seconds to work out the answer, and even though he changed his response at the last moment, his final answer turned out to be exactly right.

A $100,000 question
The Australian version of the popular ITV quiz show follows the same format as the original. One hundred contestants are challenged with questions designed to test their common sense, logic and intelligence.
Anyone who successfully answers a question that only one percent of the nation got right can win a share of a prize worth up to $100,000 AUD (£53,553).
During the episode, host Jim Jefferies presented Michael with the crucial one percent question:
“If January equals 717, March equals 5315 and June equals 4624, then what does August equal?
“You have 30 seconds to answer, your time starts now.”
The question was enough to leave plenty of viewers confused, and Michael had to work quickly as the countdown continued.
When he had 15 seconds remaining, Jefferies reminded him of the time. He later gave Michael another warning as just five seconds remained.
Then the clock hit zero.
“Okay, your time is up!” Jefferies said.
He pointed out that Michael had been working right up until the final moment, saying it looked like the question had “gone down to the wire.”
Michael admitted he had changed his answer.
“Yeah, I changed my answer too,” he said.
When Jefferies asked whether he was confident in the last-minute switch, Michael could only reply: “I hope so.”

Michael gets it right
Michael’s final answer was 6848.
Jefferies then asked what his original answer had been. Michael revealed that he had initially entered 686.
The host finally revealed the correct answer, and the number 6848 appeared on the screen.
The studio erupted in applause.
“Congratulations, Michael!” Jefferies said.
“You have won $100,000 – welcome to the 1% Club!”
For anyone still trying to figure out how Michael reached the answer, Jefferies explained the pattern.
The numbers represent three things: the number of letters in the month’s name, its position in the calendar, and the result of multiplying those two figures.
August has six letters and is the eighth month of the year. Six multiplied by eight gives 48, producing 6848.

Viewers admit they struggled too
The impressive moment later circulated on social media, where viewers shared their reactions to the question.
One TikTok user said it took them almost 10 minutes to figure it out and admitted they would never have managed it within the 30-second time limit.
Another joked: “I’m in the zero % club because I’ve got zero chance of answering that.”
A third viewer simply wrote: “Wow, impressive. I did not get that one.”
Given the pressure Michael was under, getting the answer right with only seconds to spare was certainly an impressive piece of quiz-show thinking.
