Harriet Phillips Breaks Her Silence On Marriage To Peter Phillips In First Candid Interview As A Royal
Harriet Phillips has finally opened up about her marriage to Peter Phillips, revealing the surprisingly ordinary way their romance began, the heartbreaking loss she was facing at the time, and the moment her royal husband made her feel certain he was the one.
The 46-year-old former NHS nurse, who officially joined the Royal Family on June 6, 2026, has spoken publicly for the first time about her new life alongside Princess Anne’s son. Nearly five months after their wedding, Harriet has offered a rare glimpse into their relationship, describing a love story that began far from the royal spotlight.
In an exclusive interview with HELLO! Magazine, the mother-of-one revealed that she had always hoped to meet someone naturally rather than through an arranged introduction.
“I always told myself that I would much rather meet someone naturally, and that’s exactly what happened,” she said.

A Chance Meeting That Changed Everything
Their story began in early 2022, with neither expecting that an ordinary afternoon watching their children play sport would lead to marriage.
Harriet and Peter first crossed paths on the sidelines of a hockey pitch. Her 14-year-old daughter, Georgina, was playing on the same team as Peter’s daughters, Savannah, 15, and Isla, 14.
There were no grand introductions or elaborate royal arrangements. Just two parents watching their children and striking up a conversation.
“We met watching our children play hockey, chatting casually in a very ordinary way,” Harriet recalled.
But behind that seemingly simple encounter was a deeply emotional chapter in Harriet’s life. Her father had died shortly before she met Peter, leaving her dealing with a devastating personal loss.
Reflecting on the timing, she admitted: “My father had died just before I met Peter. I often think maybe that’s why Peter came along.”

‘I Felt Incredibly At Ease With Him’
Despite their eventual royal wedding, Harriet revealed that falling for Peter was not an instant, dramatic experience.
There was no sudden thunderbolt or overwhelming romantic gesture when they first met. Instead, what stood out was the sense of comfort and security she felt in his company.
“I just felt incredibly at ease with him and experienced a lovely, peaceful, safe feeling when talking to him – like being with a really good friend,” she explained.
It was Peter who eventually took the initiative and made the first move.
Harriet also had no shortage of affectionate words for her husband, describing him as “very romantic, loving, kind, loyal, amazing and my best friend.”
Their relationship developed away from the attention of photographers and royal watchers. Early dates revolved around simple pleasures, including walking their dogs, enjoying dinners at local pubs and cooking together at home.
For Harriet, those ordinary moments became the foundation of something much bigger.

Peter’s Proposal Was The Moment She Will Never Forget
Peter, however, made sure that his proposal was anything but ordinary.
In August 2025, he planned a weekend away that appeared completely normal at first, carefully concealing the surprise he had prepared for Harriet.
When HELLO! asked her about the most romantic thing Peter had ever done, she immediately pointed to the proposal.
“Asking me to marry him. He did really well in making it seem as though it was just a normal weekend away, but creating a magical moment for both of us,” she revealed.
The couple eventually exchanged vows on June 6, 2026, at All Saints Church in Kemble, Gloucestershire, in a ceremony attended by senior members of the Royal Family.
King Charles, Queen Camilla, and the Prince and Princess of Wales were among the distinguished guests.
Harriet made a striking impression in a floor-length Emilia Wickstead wedding gown, completing her bridal look with a Pragnell tiara.

A New Chapter At Gatcombe Park
Since their wedding, Harriet and Peter have settled into married life as a newly blended family, embracing a quieter domestic routine away from the constant glare of royal attention.
Harriet brings considerable professional experience to her new chapter. Before marrying Peter, she spent 24 years working for the NHS, specialising in infant mental health.
She is now making her home on Princess Anne’s Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire, where she and Peter live close to his sister, Zara Tindall, her husband Mike and their three children.
Although Harriet’s marriage has brought her into one of Britain’s most recognisable families, her first interview suggests that the relationship itself has remained rooted in the things she valued from the beginning: friendship, loyalty, security and a natural connection.
And nearly five months after their wedding, her account of how it all began makes clear that, for Harriet, the most meaningful part of joining the Royal Family was finding the person she wanted to share her life with.
